Default Any maintenance tips?

I picked up my hawkeye at the start of February. It came with a service history and MOT. The history of it was just the reccomended stamps in book service intervals. It failed and MOT in 2010 due to worn brake pads. Other than that there's not much to read.

It's a 2.0r sport, couldn't afford anything more powerful insurance wise

Can anyone offer any tips on how to inspect all the bushes and mounts on one of these? It's done 94k so not sure when parts like that are due for a change.

Thanks in advance

Tim

you'll know when they need changing because you'll get the knocks and squeaks. If you don't have any of those then its not broke so don't fix it. ARB bushes and links generally go first and are easy to replace yourself. As with any car an oil change at regular intervals is a must and also air filter+plugs (not sure what access to the plugs is like on the sport but it can be no worse than the turbo engine!). Check the cam belt has been done as well - generally a job for a specialist if your not handy with the tools yourself.

Are spark plugs ok to change if you have a mechanical brain? I can change a wheel fit induction kit change intercooler fit dump valves but not done anything internal.
I wouldn't do it to save money I want to improve my skill at fiddling with cars

Removing the plugs is the easy bit..getting to them in the first place is what takes the time. Unless you have arms like a sparrows leg you will need to at the very least remove the air filter housing and battery. I have also found that a 3/8" drive socket is much easier to get in than a chunky 1/2" drive set as you are tight against the chassis rails
