I'm not aware they are particularly prone to any issues, though 2.5 WRX engines are known to suffer from HG failures.

It is worth checking that the previous owner has run the car on Super Unleaded as 95 octane fuel can cause piston failures on any high performance Subaru engine.

It is worth noting that the WRX is not a particularly great car in hatch form, especially compared to the more temperamental STi.

As previous post and not the best looking car in standard WRX trim. You can probably get a WRXS for sub £10k if you look around or there are some very nice and hawks and blobs STI's around for that sort of money. Don't forget the £485 road tax on anything other than the oil burner after 2006.
