Only runs with maf unplugged???
my mates bottom end went on his 2004 blob so we bought a 2002 bugeye donor car and swapped engines this weekend. Both cars ran before the swap but now that we've done it the blob refuses to run unless the maf is unplugged.
We've tried both mafs on it, made sure theyre the right way round, triple checked every hose/connection etc and are stumped on it. The only difference is the new engine has 550s and an sti tmic but its being mapped Wednesday and dont see this stopping it running.
With the maf plugged in it starts for about a second, then stalls. If you can get it to run its spluttering, popping and doesnt really respond to the throttle. As soon as you unplug the maf it starts, idles and runs spot on.
Got us stumped, any ideas?

you cant swap the ecus on a newage without coding the keys or swapping all the transponder chips. It wont be that, gonna look at the maf again today

Did you figure this out?
Cloud be the wiring for the maf on the 2004 and 2002 is different
leading to a crossed wires situation, which would mean that when the
maf is plugged in it won't run as the ecu thinks there is something wrong
and won't start the car.
