I hope someone can help, what's a rear thrust conversion (I know it's done to blocks to make them use a ej257 crank but technically what is it) and how do I tell visually if a block I'm buying has one??
It's done to the classic engines so that they can have the stronger newage crank as the older blocks are centre thrust bearing. It's not just for stroker engines it is also done to 2.0L engines for the same reason. I'd recommend you look at a few google images to be able to notice the difference.

It's the difference in the rear and centre thrust blocks. If you look at the block half here, you'll see the groove in the side of the lower main journal where the bearing shell sits. This makes this one a "rear thrust" block.
We convert the earlier "centre" thrust blocks for £150 inc vat.
