Just got my car valued with Virgin cars.

£17K.

Seems like a good price to me, as the car is just under one year old. Also bear in mind this is trade.

Bit differnt to the Subaru dealer who told me that he would offer me 5K under book price for being an import. Well thats another deal Subaru UK have lost.

When will these dealers start playing in the real world

Excellent news!

What car was it valued against? Where was the car bought (Belgium, Holland etc...)?

Regards

Steve

That was trading my WRX (will remove my scoobysport exhaust, so it will be standard) up to a new STI 7 @ £22495

My car was sourced from Belgium, but I really dont think they mind.

Basically means that I have owned my car for a year, and it has cost me £0

I might consider buying another new WRX, for another year. I guess that would mean zero depreciation.

I cant beleive it. My car has cost me nothing !!

Let us know when the transaction takes place.
If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
Or else STI here I come.

The problem that a dealer will have with your car is that nobody goes to a uk dealer to buy an import car, they go to a uk dealer to buy a uk car because they dont want the so called hassle with an import.

john,

The fact that it's a trade, I assume they're cutting some of the profit on the STi to give him a good trade in price to attract new business, that's the way it always used to work isn't it.

For example, you may get a good trade in but they won't budge on new price, or no trade in and they'll budge on the new car price.

Now, they've got WRX's on the virgin site for £17750 delivery in 6 months. They could put this up for £16500 1 careful owner, hey olly immediate delivery.

OK that's only £1250 off the new price but I remember when I used to see year old impreza's go for around that sort of depreciation.

The only reason UK depreciation is so bad now is because of the availability of cheap euro imports, doesn't mean imports follow the same rules.

Perhaps that's too logical or maybe be it's ilogical, but i like the sound of it.

That is a brilliant deal. I got less than that selling my 10 month old MY01 Belgian import privately. However there were two UK cars of the same age but less miles than mine. One was £500 more and the other was £1200 less than mine. I sold mine to the first bloke who came to see it, the UK cars are still for sale.

Funny old world

silver knight, they don't go to buy a UK car they go to buy a car from a dealer for the best price they can, the problem is that the dealers hands are tied as they are only allowed to sell IM cars.

I enquired about the Virgin STi - spoke to a guy called Andy I think. He confirmed they source them from Cyprus - might be an issue with servicing with UK dealers?

Tell them it's an import and you may find you get a lot less.

This happened to a chap chopping a passat in at Jamjar. He got a figure, agreed, ordered a new car, was due to pay 350 quid to swap and then two days beforehand they dropped the value by 6k because "it was an import".

It'd be nice if Virgin don't care...

...but if you haven't disclosed it, you may find a shock...

Both Virgin and Oneswoop have both publicly said that will value EU imports the same as UK cars.

I got my old EU import Celica valued a couple of £100 quid less than privately avertised UK cars by Oneswoop - this whole issue of EU cars being valued less than anyone appart from dealers is a load of BS. Anyone who sells their car to a dealer - UK or EU is going to get shafted anyway.

It does sound to good to be true and look where they are sourced from Cyprus, UK Subaru dealers I have spoken to won't service these as they are not EU sourced cars.

I did declare that my car was from belgium, so that was taken into consideration.

As for the cypruss issue, I thought VC guarantees no problems with servicing or warantee ?

Olly,

Have Virgin told you where you can get them serviced I have heard before that they have used independent dealers, not Subaru. I think this is ok for the first year as long as Subaru parts are used and work is done to Subaru's spec. Last time I enquired there was only one years warranty on Cyprus sourced cars not the 3 that you get in the UK or EU. I have been considering one of these myself but until I can get 3 years warranty and Subaru servicing I will hold back. My main concern is trying to sell the car 3 years down the line, with no Subaru history I personally would not want to buy it.

Si.

Si,

Your probably right. I am not actually gonna order through VC's, but probably the same place where I got my WRX. I can get it for £21200 !

See this link for the quote I posted.

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=99996

Only problem with that is I have to sell privatly. But that should not be a problem. My car is immaculate with a full Subaru 3 year waranty. I have a clifford alarm (better than the UK dealer fitted crap) full service and low low miles. I will declare that it is an EU import. I doubt I will have trouble. I will probably price it around the £18500 ono area.

Anyone interested ?? (Free plug)

£18.5k sounds steep when people can get them new on short order from Well Lane etc etc for £17995 - but good luck - why sell yourself short!

To anyone looking at the link above.

Specify that you want your car from a Belgian garage. Gibson's will arrange for the garage to send you their invoice as proof. I had no problems in dealing with them and would do so again.

No links, etc....
