When I first bought it

It came with a number of goodies already fitted and was bought from a member on here and I had mapped it previously.. came with 20g, fmic, 650cc injectors, bc coilovers, simtek etc..
387bhp on vpower and with 10% meth 400.. or amusingly 399.9bhp..

Removed the 6speed after buzzing the engine to 9000rpm twice and numerous abandoned that doesnt feel right gearchanges.. I hate 01~04 6speeds for this... the gearchange just doesnt lend itself imho for dropping into the next cog and it is so easy to go from end of 4th into 3rd rather than 5th. Anyway so now on a straightcut 5speed and a twin plate excedy clutch installed at the same time, I only tried to get it into reverse at high revs in 5th a complete of times

Then I fitted an MD321T and it ran 450bhp.. soon got bored and installed a Syvecs ecu and had www.tfsracing.co.uk fit my MD321V, 1000cc injectors, ran it for a while and then tweaked on the dyno and been running 502bhp since, if I recall correct this was around 1.8 or 1.9bar.. but have since upped it to 2bar.

So it would appear the standard engine refuses to break despite the continued abuse of 2bar, launch control, antilag etc.. it gets driven very very hard.
Car gets driven everywhere
recent mapping trip to Northern and Southern Ireland

same trip in december

syvecs cal switch

summer wheels, bonnet scoop has since been changed to a wrx one

Well as the engine refuses to break I have decided to pull the engine and replace it

A plan is hatched

To be continued..............

Like them wheels simon, what size are they and tyres ?,i know what you mean with the 6 speeds i tend to find the 2nd to 3rd change tricky when trying hard on drag strip, them pesky 2.0l seem to handle much more than people used to think they could.

Not really a project compared to the other one and I appear to have 99.9% of the parts laying around

500hp daily runner must be entertaining! As an aside Simon, how much hp can you get from 740 injectors assuming all other mods are good enough?

Nice, didn't realise you were running so much poke already. Must say love silver on the newage cars in the flesh, shows off the arches. Think it looked good with the dark wheels on, contrasting the silver.

What have you done with your green classic (see your old plate is on this one now)?

Where's the diet coke stickers? You must be a majority share holder by now

Yes I will be.

You have shown interest in it for as long as I can remember and have first refusal. Although your ra is pretty insane at 477 anyway lol

The only time I notice lag is if you pull away normally in 1st and then floor it.
Say turn right out of a junction and floor it when straight and there is a delay waiting for boost. Launch it and it is fantastic but launching and turning right at the same time makes passengers squeal. In top 1bar comes in at 3400rpm and 2bar 3700rpm.

Slighly laggier but your 2.1 works well at spooling turbo.
You established what rods are in it yet?
Another 30 to 50hp.

K1 rods. This is the reply Alan gave me when i asked him about the rods.

There is always a quantifiable risk with running high performance turbo engines. Obviously you're the one who has to accept that fact!
Moving on from that, we are not at all worried about running the K1 rods at 550 bhp. In fact I don't see it as a "power" issue at all, so much as a power v rpm issue. If you're running very high power, you're more likely to over rev an engine than someone who isn't.
That type of rod would handle 220 bhp per cylinder.
One of our customers is regularly getting 650 bhp from his 2.1.
There is only one type of rod bolt in common use, and that's the ARP version. The only stronger alternative costs £40 plus vat per bolt!
Obviously I can't say for sure whether your rods will survive what ever you're going to do to them, but personally, I'd have my eye on a lot of other potential problems before the rods were a priority on my list.
Regards Alan

JGM, if the turbo goes from 1 bar at 3400 rpm to 2 bar at 3700 rpm, what are those 300 rpm like.
