Default Double Trouble Scooby's

Hi all relitavley new to the site but thought would post up a project me and my business partner (houlty1) are half way through.
Last year we thought we d try our hand at a few track days so we had a search on ebay and found a N/A MR2 () we booked our first track day at Rockingham and 3/4 of the way round the warm up lap the head gasket went neadless to say were mightly pissed off so we took it back to the workshop and re built it i decided to stay with the MR2 (because i am a TIT) and houlty decided to go and by a 1996 STI (orange mirrors), after which we did another track day at Rockingham MR2 died and the STI kept blowing the header tank cap off but we did manage a few laps each in the STI so not a complete waist .
Since then i bought a wagon wrx to use on the track and houlty decided to make the STI into a beast. Last month all those plans changed i sold the wagon but have took the engine out houlty bought another STI in white and i bought the silver STI shell off of him.
The white STI is crammed full of gadgets and gysmos so i will let him post up about that because i have very little knowledge on cars.
We have loads of pictures of what we have done so far to the cars and there will be lots more coming as the cars have alot of big plans for both of them.

Default the white one!!!!

now where to start i guess the begining is always good!
after the bitter disapointment of a under powered mr2 i went out and bought a 96,sti great car to start my track day fun with.
The first track day started ok but then the header tank cap kept pissing coolant out someone had put a wrx cap on it 0.9 bar so it keep drowning the airfilter so could only manage 3 laps stints but was ok for that day.
I decided that the car needed some major money throwing at it as it was completely standard so new part where ordered.
headers came so i went to fit them and notice water in the head so pulled the engine out to change head gaskets and thats as far as i got over the winter.

I keeped a look out and came across another subaru with all the bits on it i needed plus the engine had just had a rebuild with a cdb what a bonus to buy this car was cheaper than buying all the bits i would need for my other car so i bought it.

Now i was ready for the track get stuff!
I couldnt help myself so i took the car out for a spin near my factory and as soon a i put my foot down i was disapointed it was gutless i use to own a 2003 sti road car running approx 400bhp
this classic felt no where near that and it had remapped at 1.4 bar with apexi commander, fpr, Innovate lm1 wideband meter and logger, 550 cc injectors flowed and tested, tubular headers,3" exhaust so all the right bits in the right place or so i thought.
the result after less than 5 miles.

What a mess to say i was pissed off was a serious understatment!!!
so now the build is on the car is stripped of everything she doesnt need and gonna have a fresh lick of paint.
Six pot ap racing brakes on order ive put head gaskets on my spare engine
so i can drop that in and have some fun while i save so funds to forge the cdb im thinking of going down the 2.1 route and heading for big numbers now just gonna buy bits each month untill ive got it all then build it and hope to god that the spare engine holds out while i save the money.

Default a little bit more done!!!

Ive been in the workshops again today ive now stripped the whole of the inside of the car, wiring loom, door windows, ive taken out the electric window motors on 3 of the doors to save weight.
The wiring loom was interesting and im lightly concerned that i may not remember where it all goes when it comes to putting it back in .
Ive also painted the inner arches today on the front so i can now get the front wings back on.
the car is now booked in for a full respray next saturday so things are now moving on.
i cant wait till i actually get to put parts on the car instead of taking them off.
I got one of the front hubs off and gave it a lick of paint

And i would like to say a special thank you to the morron who glued the rear lights in place
I now need 2 rear lights

Its all systems go now! the good weather is coming roll on the summer.

Default todays fun!

today ive stripped both rear brakes and painted the inner arches

they are looking much better now!
the next job was to clean and paint some of the brackets

and then it was onto the job ive been putting off the fitting of a fmic
first thing to cut was the bumper support bar i cut off the bottom 4 to 5 inches.

that done i then mounted the intercooler and made some brackets to hold the bottom of it

then the worst bit of all cutting the bumper
this is before cutting

after a couple of hours of measuring and cutting a bit at a time its on and i was one happy boy!

so bit by bit ive got a lot done this weekend and ive only got the gearbox to take out and its ready for painting next saturday

Not much done as ive been working away from home!!
i had some bits and bobs to do before the car could go for paint so i did manage to get in the garage last sunday i had to remove the boot spoiler and bolt the boot lid back on.

also take some more trim off then it was time to put the reverse scoop on.

I then mount the new bonnet as im changing the bonnet to a facelift model.
Ive decided to do away with the bonnet catch and cable so i got some flush fit aerocatches, seemed like a good idea at the time!! but really alot of work involved!!! got to make sure they are both in the same place either side of the bonnet plus cut the holes right which for me was a bloody miracle but i was happy with what i had done

that done i mounted the bumper and just didnt like it so i made some more holes so the intercooler can get more air plus i think it looks so much better.
before!

after!

then all that was left was to load it on the trailor ready to be taken to the paint shop.

those of you with an eye for detail will notice ive also had the trailor altered into a beaver tail to aid loading and unloading.
Next pics should be of the car painted.

Default she,s back!!!!!!

Nothing much been happening this week as the shell has been away being painted but its all done now and back in the garage.

I did how ever manage to pick up a set of 18" wheels this week thanks to a sn member benji554 and the right colour aswell what a bonus.

Ive been and got some pirelli tarmac tyres for said rims aswell so grip shouldnt be a problem.
Im hopeing to get into the garage this weekend and get some more work done so i will post what ive done.

Default The rebuild begins!!!!!!!!!

Today was spent putting my car back together now she has a fresh coat of paint!
The windows are back in and the black trim and rubbers have been put back on.

Ive also put the new rear spoiler on (bigger is better)

I then decided to flock my dashboard and what a bloody mission that was!

before.

covered in glue.

and now flocked!

It didnt quite go as easy as i thought it would, so will see how it looks tomorrow when it has dryed.

Default Todays fun!!!

Ive spent a few hours in the garage today mainly painting brackets and strut braces.

I also got my front brakes out the box they have been sat in for the last month and gave them a clean i dont thinking stopping is gonna be an issuse with these

Ive had my intake manifold powered coated aswell i went for a different colour than the normal red

The dashboard is now flocked and it wasnt as easy as i thought it would be, trying to get it to look the same all over is a nightmare kept getting bald spots but all done now

As you can see from the next pictures the garage is starting to fill up now with all the parts that myself and stanny_ wrx have bought ready to put onto the cars, but we have so many spares its becoming a pain to find anywhere to put anything.

thats it for now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:s leep:
