Track Car Project
Well, after much hesitation and due to constant prompts from Clive to get a thread started, here it goes. The story.....
I had a friend who builds race cars for a living and went to watch him race a few times. The more I went, the more I thought "I want some of this".
He was gonna help me with the technical side of things as I knew nothing about cars but, when push came to shove, he let me down
"You cant afford it" was one reason and "I dont want to be involved in something that will never go anywhere" was another.
Thats like a red flag to a bull for me but looking back, I guess to be fair, he was right about the "you cant afford it" part. I never had a clue how much something like this would end up costing.
So anyway, I decided that I would crack on with the dream and try and do it alone. Bear in mind that when I started, I didn't even know what a piston, crank, FPR, intercooler etc etc was. I honestly didn't have a clue (still dont). To make things even funnier, to this date, I have never driven a car faster than my 138bhp Peugeot 206 GTI.
And yes, I know I'm in for one hell of a shock
I started off buying Terry B's old shell and engine in March 2009. Since then I've been on the forums and travelling around the country slowly collecting parts, meeting quite of you on my journey. During the early days and due especially to my lack of technical knowledge, many parts were bought that I either didn't need or wouldn't be up to the job. Luckily I was able to sell most of these on. Due to much needed guidance from Paul, Mark, Mikee and Gazza, those mistakes (learning experiences) have since been kept to a minimum.
almost 2 years down the line, I'm now at the stage where most of the parts needed have now been acquired (and as you all know, a few spares and I am almost ready to start the build.
The original plan was to put a fibre glass 22b kit and fibre glass doors on the car but that may have to wait, simply to get the car up and running. Having also not driven anything above 138bhp before, theres a good chance I'll prang it during testing and therefore those bits are probably best left until later.
So never having done anything even remotely like this before, the project thread is likely to be a mish mash of everything. Hopefully it'll get there in the end and by starting it, it will also give me a kick up the butt to get it built.
A massive thanks to Gazza, Paul, Mark, Clive, Mikee, John, Andy and anyone else who has either given me advice and support, or who I have met and bought parts from.
Hope you enjoy the ride as much as I have so far.

Building a fast car is all well and good, but you gotta be able to stop quickly too.
Bought these (little ) beauties. Should do the job. Porsche 6 pot fronts.
Rears will be standard brembo 2 pots with a bias adjustable pedal box.

Never knew taking stickers off a car could be so exhausting. Bear in mind those stickers had been on the car for years and also that the car had been sitting in a garage for the last two years collecting dirt.
Absolutely battered but at least I made some progress.

Fair play that's a hell of a list of parts you have acquired there.
I'm in the process of finding my list of parts.
Good luck with the build. Will keep an eye on this one.
