Default Type R caged track machine

The start of a long journey with this one. Myself and 'Terzo 320' have decided to build a car between us, details are still to be finalised on what engine box etc it will have but we have a base car. Picked up our Type R shell yesterday, basically it is a damaged car as you will see in the pics. There is currently damage to the A piller, roof, wing and bonnet but apart from that it's a cracking shell. Lots of interior bits, driveshaft etc came with it also.

The first stage will to get the body work damage sorted and then get it fully caged. That will take us a couple of months I am sure but gives us time to decide on engine and box etc.

Anyway a few pics of it on the trailer being dropped off at a pals body shop.

And the damage -

Now thats a nice shell and damage is no where near drastic.

I'm also after something similar and if you know of any good contacts where i could pick one up from please do let me know.

Finance and price permiting.

Thanks

Baly, this was a private sale off a guy on SIDC. Think we got a little lucky with this one, as we did not pay very much at all

Work has begun on the car, we found another dent on the nearside wing so that will be repaired also whilst the other work is being done. I am going to donate my boot and V5 spoiler from my RA also as I have a new boot coming (in sonic blue) without a spoiler on to reduce weight and drag on the RA As the current spoiler is bonded on then this is the easiest solution to sort 2 cars in one.

We are still discussing a drivetrain for the 'R' Latest thinking is to use my old engine which currently resides in Terzo 320's car. It's a forged 2.0 CDB with standard STI4 heads, turbo is a MD321T and there is also a UK 6 speed and diff to transfer. We will then return my pals Terzo to standard to sell that car on.

So we are looking for a few parts at the moment -

Initailly for the 'R' we need a V5 bumper and grill to finish off the body.

For the Terzo a V3 or V4 full engine and gearbox and diff.

Lots to do but at least some sort of plan is forming

Yeah trying to find the balance with this one tbh, a high reving 2.0 makes it a better proposition as track day machine imho and 450 bhp is plenty We could look at 2.5 build etc but we are trying to keep this on a budget and as we have some doner parts already then it allows us to spend money elsewhere on the cage etc.

450 should be plenty. what about swapping the crank out though for a sti one to make a 2.1. bit of extra displacement and still nice and revy.

interested to see how it turns out. going to leave it white or are you going for a bit of a mad paintjob / graphics?

2.1 means spliting the block and more expence so we will stay 2.0. It's most definitely staying virginal white and sticker free

ah yes, forgot about that.

got to have some stickers. but then i do come from essex. flamer kit anyone?

i'd go mad with the cage colour and have something like bright red as a contrast.

Couple of pics of completed repairs (I will put some better quality ones up when I see the car again)

A pillar is repaired along with roof. We ended up spraying the roof and entire front end !

Slight change in plans engine wise, I am picking up another built engine on Saturday purchased from a guy on here. Only just run in with 1000 miles and we will strap STI4 heads to it with Cosworth gaskets.

Spec of engine -

2.0 closed deck block
1mm oversize woosner forged pistons
eagle H beam steel conrods
rcm modified oil pump
acl race series main and big end bearings
ARP headstuds
ARP rod bolts

The other engine we have from Terzo 320's car (my old engine) is similar but we plan to replace the old Ross pistons in that one and keep as a spare, unless we start running out of funds

I have acquired a few other bits this week, I will post photos as they arrive.

My other two cars are keeping me busy at the moment, was at Zen yesterday getting bigger injectors in the 'fast car' Paul tweaked the map and we had 581/517 brfore the rad sprung a leak ! We replaced that and Paul finished mapping on the road but there was no more time to pop it back on the rollers as it was 8.00pm and we had both had enough by then. Got to save up for a Solaris now as car wants to run more boost but I a limited by the current map sensor. With a little more boost the car we see over 600, but that's for another day.

I will finish off the Wagon tomorrow as my pal has just dropped a STI4 engine in that for me but I now need to go and connect everything up and get that running.

However back to the project car, picked up these bits today -

Solaris seems to be interesting a lot of people now, I'm also wanting to know more about this ECU for my car as well

Got my wagon finished today, the STI4 engine is lovely I am now limited by injectors on this car now as I have 98% duty at just 1.2 bar on 440's ! I have the old 850's from the 'fast car' so may map it on those in the future. That will have to wait though......on with the project

Paul says it's a cracking ECU, I am waiting for the plug in version as that will bring the cost down a little

Not much of an update but the shell has been transported to our pals garage where the drivetrain will go in

We now have to get drivetrain out of the Terzo, then strip the engine down to transfer the heads over on to the new short engine.

Here's a pic of the donor Terzo

Not much has happened to the actual car as yet but I have been very bust over the last few weeks collecting various parts for the build - Here's a list

Freshly built forged engine as pictured above
Boot Spolier
Coilovers
Grill
22b Bumper
STI clocks
Crystal Headlights
Clear Side repeaters
Bonnet vents
Rear lights
Clear Side lights
Custom Alloy Rad
APS 3.5” exhaust
Safety devices cage

We now need to get the engine and box out of the Terzo for that to be returned to standard. I will then get the heads off the current engine in there and get those strapped to the new one we bought.

We will drop a new set of forged pistons in the old engine and keep that as a spare now as it makes very little sense selling it as we will no doubt regret it in the future if we do. I originally had this in my blue car and know it's a very good lump as was built by Zen a couple of years back and it's covered well under 10k.

There will be a few more things to transfer across from the Terzo too. There are a nearly new set of Hi Spec brakes, Apexi ECU etc. So I think we have just about everything we need now, just the hard work of putting it all together !

Well this project stalled somewhat over the summer as the RA was taking all the time and attention competing in scooby sprint, TOTB and scooby shootout. However now the colder months are here we are moving again.

Zen built up the new engine for me. I say new I had the short block I had bought but the heads from the old car needed stripping and rebuilding and strapping to the block. As a few valve were slightly bent a few were replaced as well as new stem seals etc. Also had new water pump and a few other odds and sods.

I then got the engine over to my pals garage so he could drop it in for me as I don't have a crane at home. Gearbox is also on now.

The cage is still to be fixed in but it's getting there. I will get the car back to mine in a couple of weeks to continue works but here's a few pics in the interim -

I have also sold my wagon to a very good friend as I thought 3 Scoobs was a little excessive ! That will be going next weekend after I have fitted another turbo and injectors as he wants more power then me It's then being mapped at Zen the following week.

This really has been a cracking car for me for the last couple of years. If anyone is interested the MD304 on this car is about to come off and is for sale. Great turbo spools quickly and will make 360-370bhp, better alternative then an 18g imo.

I am then on the look out for a replacement that I can tow the scoobs with, thinking Disco V8 with LPG. Seen a few under 2k which seems a bargain.

I would've taken the bonnet if it was a 99-00 version.
