Default engine transplant - need advise!

i just blew my engine!

i have a ver 5 wrx sti ra and have searched for the same engine but to no avail. i have only found a ver 6 sti engine (front clip) and a ver 7 wrx engine (front clip)

which should i buy? the series 7 has only 15,000 kms on it and is still very fresh but i'm concerned that it won't fit on my car? experts please shed some light on this! i need to decide ASAP since these engines are hard to find and will be gone soon if i don't grab one of them!

oh! the difference between the WRX and WRX STI is that STI version has more torque than the WRX only version but has the same Horsepower, right???

please as much inputs, suggestions and advise are needed and appreaciated! thanks!

If its a long engine, ie with heads, i would go with the Ver6

If its a short engine, ie no heads, i would go with the Ver7

I assume by front clip, you mean the car received a front end impact? If so, i would be very cautious of buying an engine that has been involved in a front impact.

front clip - it has everything from the front bumper to the dash board intact. car maybe had a collision on the back part because the front part is the only one being sold.

how would i know if my engine is long or short? the engines that are being offered to me are still in Japan and will be shipped if i decide to get them

Sounds like they are long engines then.

I would go with the sti6

A long engine include the heads, ie its roughly 30 inches wide

A short block doesnt include the heads, ie its roughly 15 inches wide, and would require heads attaching to it before being installed in the engine bay.

And I'll buy the v6 heads off you, or your old v5 ones if you just want to bolt new engine in (I'd like to see photos of valves and valve train on v5 heads first though)
