Is this practical?, or a potential turd polishing excercise?
I inhereted a Mk2 golf GTi the other day, non runner 8V, the bodywork is ok bar a couple of spots on the tailgate and wheelarch. I can get my hands on an ex corrado 2.9 VR6 front end running gear, box, engine, ecu, etc for 800 quid.
Lets say I completely stripped the interior bar the dash, couple of tasty fixed seats, and removed all non essential items like the heater etc. Dropped in said VR6 lump.
Throw a grand or so at the engine, by way of a chip & Nos....
.....I always wanted one of those switches on the dash, like in fighter planes with a flip up Red&white striped safety guard marked FIRE/DANGER
what do you reckon - potential trackday fun/street sleeper, or piss1ng in the wind??

mj its a fine line between turd polishing and excellent fun i would sway towards the excellent fun side though but get a good air freshner for the finished product to be on the safe side lol

do it..
I looked at doing a vr6 / g60 /16v conversion on a mk1 about 8 months ago..
plenty of info on the net.. do it..
Think there were probs with either the inlet manifold and / or alternator brackets

Go for it!!!
Ive seen it done & have test driven two, wheels will spin in 2nd & 3rd.
My friend who breaks vw's had a conversion/project done over two years ago. He finally sold the car without the engine & running gear & bought an RS2, seems a shame though after spending ££££ on bodywork (audi door handles, rallye light, rear lid modded to suit smaller no.plate, corrado dash etc, nice purplish paint) he let it go for £1500.
Fitting the engine is tight you will need a big hammer to clear the body work to crank pullies etc. God help you if you need to change any of them belts.
My other friend should be blasting around in a nice looking mk2 golf vr6 (2.9) based up north Bradford sides not in a sliver tatty mk2 golf vr6 anymore lol.

There is some rust under where the battery is - I have tried hammerite rust remover and is is ok, but I'll need another gallon. All the loose stuff is gone, is there anything I can put on the final hard layer of rust that I can the paint over straightaway?
Tell you what, that gunk io bloody good stuff
