Turbo into Pick up ?
#2
I live in the land of pickups and think about that everytime I see one. I'd like to be able to just cut the truck frame rails right behind the cab and bolt the front of an Impreza clip to it using the bumper mounts. Of course additional reinforcement would be needed, but that way you could swap out entire drivetrains. The steering would have to be fixed somehow...don't want it to turn on you.
You'd end up with a full independent suspension, disc brakes all around and a mid-engined set-up.

We are just in the process of building a mini pick up whit a tubular chassis whit carbon front, doors and what will give the car total wheat of 500 kg
The engine that we are using is a STI 5 engine whit the gearbox converted to 2 RWD and mid engine setup the engine is a lit bit modified whit a link setup making around 325 BHP what will make a power ratio 1hp/ 1.54kg
We hope to have it ready in the spring of 2004

Here's one.... I gave my friends a hand at doing up their Subaru pick-up sometime back. We got a little carried away and ended up with a Legacy drive train, including a 2.0L turbo engine. Pretty amazing and wickedley quick..... Pics at request....

Am not sure why it's not working. Email me on g_bhabra@hotmail.com
We completely stripped the pick-up down to the bare shell. Loads of modifications were needed. It's a long process.
A few things you should think about:
Legacy: McPherson type struts. Pick up will need turrets made and welded at the right place.
Legacy has a much bigger engine. Loads of cutting and welding in the front chasis/engine bay.
Longer Prop shat will be needed to be cut down to length.
Front and Rear cross-members and sutable but need mounting points.
Gearbox cross-member was made to measure to suit existing mounting brackets on Chasis.
After about 2 years of busy weekends and evenings, we ended up with a 300BHP motor weighing in at less than 750Kg. Amazingly quick and handles much better than the legacy.
The parts we used were off a GRP A STI Legacy, therefore a lot stronger and lighter..... and alot more expensive !!
