Default Scooby Newbie - first upgrades

First time poster and first time scooby owner, I've just picked up a really clean 05 wrx wagon PPP. It's completely stock (other than the PPP) and so far I'm thinking about some upgrades such as a de-cat up pipe and some coilovers. I plan on keep the engine pretty stock (for now) but would love to hear some advice on any small upgrades that make a nice difference. I'd love to get a bit more turbo noise and maybe a more aggressive exhaust sound, but not over the top. I understand having a VTA BOV isn't a great idea, to avoid rough running. I'm not too bothered about upping the power just yet, maybe in a year or so. Just wondering what you guys have done to yours, intake, exhaust, suspension and brake wise. Also for the future, what sort of power can the stock internals handle while staying 100% reliable and how to go about achieving that, just so I can start thinking about future upgrades.

Cheers, can't wait to crack on with this project!

Welcome to scoobynet , get yourself a decent air filter like a hks or apexi/k&n if you want induction and turbo noise and then get a cat back exhaust ( there's tons to choose from depending on your budget ) Hayward & Scott make quality items

Failing all that just read other people's wrx projects and see what others have done

Where in bucks are you ?

Welcome, good choice – any pics to share?

I've had my blob PPP wagon for just over 3 years, and it was also stock when I got it, apart from the PPP kit.

First I had to sort out some of the mess from the previous owner - mixture of cheap tyres, brake pads and discs nearly worn through, suspension knocks etc.

I chose to go with MeisterR ZetaCRD+ coilovers (have a search for them, plenty of threads with recommendations and experiences) as replacing the shocks and springs would have cost about the same, and I wanted adjustability of ride height and damping, as I do a few trackdays etc.

Then I upgraded the brakes to used Brembos from an STI – makes an enormous difference in stopping power and confidence. Need to get STI wheels to clear the calipers too.

I've added strut braces (front and rear), a brake stopper, rear camber bolts and a bigger ARB (20mm) from an STI, which has made the handling nice and tight, and reduced understeer significantly – and altogether cost about £150. Another £100 or so getting the geometry aligned to take advantage of all that.

I've only done a couple of bits to the interior – added heated leather seats from an SL model and upgraded the stereo head unit (speakers still to be fitted). Eventually I'd like to replace the rear seats with leather from an SL wagon and do the door cards at the same time, but they don't appear on ebay very often.

Just about to start doing some power upgrades, have gathered pink injectors, fuel pump, STI intercooler and up/downpipes, and a used VF35 turbo. Hope to get it all fitted and mapped in over the winter, to get it up to about 320-330 bhp.
