What year of MK4 ?
The pre 2002 had a K03 Turbo with stronger Engine internals & will map to about 170 bhp ish.
Post 2002 had K03s turbo & would map to about 210 bhp, The later ones were prone to the PCV pipes splitting & more boost leaks.
The rear axle bushes were prone to wearing & will clunk quite badly going over bumps.
Timing belts were due every 70k or so.
The earlier ones were were 5 speed, Post 2002 ones were AUM engine code & non throttle cables, Both were 150 bhp as standard.
There were later models with AUQ Engine codes & were 180 Bhp as standard but still map to about 210.
Handling on them isn't the most exciting but with a decent set of springs & a rear ARB they were a lot better,

Well what can I say car was running great Saturday I changed the front discs and pads then did the rears everything was fine took the car out for a brake check all good till the clutch pedal dropped to the floor ..! Got it back doing carefull clutch less changes and clutch fluid all over the floor, did some reading and found out that the golfs , boras and some audi's suffer from a common fault the slave cylinder .. Glad it's happened local pretty easy fix really and peace of mind it's getting done.

I had an A3 1.8T, basically the same car. Check the drivers footwell for small bits of metal. There is a weld on the clutch pedal itself that is known to fail. rewelding with a thicker bit of metal solves the problem.
