Default ford key replacement

i have just bought the mrs an 02 ford ka but it only has 1 key,i want to get her a spare just in case

it is a black key with a red chip insert

ford want £190 for a new key....................."****" and "off" spring to mind

anywhere i can get one cheaper? it doesnt have central locking or an alarm but i should imagine it has an immobiliser

we have a timpsons local to us and they did keys for us years ago on our nissan gt

Our Local Timpsons in Penrith says it does coded keys on a poster outside.........

hi,Ive got one from timpsons this afternoon for my 04 focus,only £25.00 and it works perfect,sure it said half price sale but i think its kind of a permanent sale

does a focus have the same weak-*** barrel type key as the ka,black with red strip on it?

My niece had the same.

The original key with chip (chip lol, its a small pcb in a glass insert ariel) was spinning on the shaft.

2 options available

1) New non chip key cut, and the chip transferred. £40

2) New non chip key cut, and the old key cut down and the two heads taped together £15

3) Ebay offers some other options as we found out

You cheapest option is to take the chip out and tape it to the ignition barrel, then get a unchipped key cut should be around the £10 mark. OFC if you value the car and want to keep in line with insurance its going to cost more.

You send the original key, and they clone it

just spoke to timpsons and they can get me a clone key made for £30 so..........................yoink
