Default Evo 9 advice

Looking for a bit of advice from some of you as i know there's a few owners/ex evo owners on here.

Getting a bit fed up of my wrx so decided to test drive a evo 9 fq300 on saturday, was close to doing a deal on it but there is a severe lack of service history which sorta puts me off.

There's 2 stamps for 2007 and 2 for 2008. No milage written in them though. Car drove fine etc and has 37k on it.

Should i be put off by it as much as i am? Cars coming from a Mitsubish dealer and would have a years test, 6 months tax, years warranty, a major service and timing belt changed.

Im sure it would have been serviced regular just lack of proof, also come resale time how hard would it be to sell on due to that?

Cheers

I owned an Evo 8 FQ300 for 5 years - sold it when 9 years old with about 18 stamps in the book and 5 years of receipts, including a belt and a clutch. There's only so many places that this car should have been serviced at - do a bit of digging and you might turn up some history. Without any, I would pick another one.

I had an Evo IX FQ-340 as my last car but have come back to the Scoob world for various reasons. Anyway that's another story.

My main concern would be with the car you have described is it actually an FQ model and a UK car? Little service history can indicate it's import re-badged as an FQ in order to sell at a premium. Get the VIN and ring Mitsubishi or go on the MLR and ask 'Black Knight' to check for you.

Hope that helps.

They had a check on there system but no record of anything. There a Mitsubishi dealer so it's obviously not had nothing done at a Mitsubishi dealer. The cars a fiver short of 14k.

I was under the impression all 9's were fq models.

Feel free to fire me other suggestions of what to buy

Aak yourself this question. Would you buy a subaru with no history etc. If it was a ford focud yea its not too bad as any one with some basic skills can service a focus themself but subarus, mitsubushi youd want decent history so you know you aint gonna be buying a new engine in 6 months time

Honest advice walk away mate

Very true. The lack of history is what made me think twice about it in the first place. It's very scarce compared to my impreza service book.

my advice would be dont dismiss it because of history , i would get it inspected if you cannot do it your self, as some owners are more than capable of servicing their own cars....might work out as a bargaining tool for you to use .

Could be a bit expensive? I sold my 9 FQ340 for £14.5k at 3.5 years old with about 20000 miles, full history, 2 owners.

Service history is not an issue IMO, my car came with full dealer history and since then I've serviced myself or my bro in law has done it as he loves tinkering with subarus and at least I know it's done correctly in my viewing, what I'm trying to say is that most car enthusiasts look after their cars themselfs as they feel it's better than going to dealers, they just take them to specialists if the job is hard, tbh I wouldn't trust some dealers anyway as some of them can't even do the job right, too many apprentices working on cars nowadays with little info and just told what to do by head mechanic.
Like others have said take someone with you who knows their stuff with evos etc and try find out previous owner and ask them history etc .

Maybe he has got/sold his impreza and hasn't taken the plunge yet to register at mlr, I mean what's the point if he's not 100% sure he will buy it, he may end up with something else.
Please have an open mind instead of the idiot comments.

If dealer is offering a warranty and is giving it a major service with belts done I don't suppose it matters really as if anything goes wrong it will cost you nothing anyway and if nothing goes wrong all well and good

Didn't see the point in signing up to MLR to ask one question, and I did have a look on there but couldn't find much. Anyway plenty threads on here about people asking advice on non Subaru related cars

When you look at it like that then it doesnt seem to bad, if something goes wrong in the first year theres a good chance it would be covered.

As someone said though could be a bit overpriced as there's a 57 plate FQ340 for the same price about 100 miles away but with about a extra 7k miles on it

Hasn't taken the plunge to register on MIR?????????????????

Well if he is considering buying an EVO do you not think MIR should be his first port of call? It's not rocket science to register, even I am a member and I don't even own an EVO.

He needs to get himself one of these 'open minds' that you are referring to and register on MIR, he may even get some constructive advice from the guys that are just as passionate about their EVO's as folk on here are about the Impreza

I second the above, well typed my man ,my E90 M3 has only 11k miles on the clock from new in 3 years, the first schedule oil change is 1200 miles(run-in service ) , then next one is @15k miles , but my car has had 4 oil change already (2 by stealers and 2 by me).
as mention above best buy are the ones from a real car enthusiasts as then you'll know "it no expence spared"

My scooby was bought from a specialist known through a couple off friends. He basically got asked by a dealer to do the service work to it as they didnt have the correct experience and knew he did. When he checket it over he knew it was all good and put out word that there was a decent scoob for sale and my brother bought it. He owned it for a few years and the specialist has done any work on it since. I bought it from my bro two years ago and asked him for all the paperwork. . . . . .. .there wasnt anything before he owned it , apart from a few stamps in the service book!

I though he was mad to buy it in the 1st place , but it shows that as long as its checked over by someone that knows what to look for it should be fine.

Its never give either of us any bother.

People ask about other makes of car on here all the time, it's called other marques for that reason.

Also, I dare say there are people on here that might own or have owned an Evo who can give some less biased advice than over on MLR.
