Its a con. Wealthy people will pay BMW for the upgrade as they do sound better not realising you can actually change the speakers yourself.
£650 will get you a far far far better aftermarket stereo system.

Personally, I would give them a miss. I've heard standard and HK systems and the HK's are only slightly better although you get a bit more bass because of the sub(s) but still rubbish compared to aftermarket kit. Save your money mate and upgrade them yourself down the line.

I have the Harmon Kardon stereo in my Mercedes. It was a big step up from any other car stereo I'd heard before (excluding my brother in laws Range Rover).

On the E9*, the relatively cheap Alpine upgrade was a very professional looking systems (amp, tweeters, OEM door moulds) for about £400 fitted. Above that it seems only the Individual system was worth the money. Might not be relevant to the F30 yet though?!
