New Porsche 911
A friend is going to spend some of his hard earned on a new 911. He is a half decent driver and won't track the car but likes a bit of fun on the road. He currently has a Golf R32 so likes the awd traction. He was wanting advice on which new 911 to get, the Carrera S or Carrera 4 S. They are both around £80k but the Carrera S seems to have around 15 more hp and is lighter. He is also pretty sure he's going to opt for the PDK box. Any thoughts and opinions on either?
Ps he doesn't like the Nissan GTR before anyone suggests it .

991?
C4S doesn't exist yet.
Only C2 or C2S available at the moment so he won't even be able to try anything else.
They start at £80k ish, but to have any desirable spec he'll be looking at nearer £90k.
Ridiculous amount of money for a cooking 911!

One of my mates had an extended test drive of this for a bank holiday weekend and it's bloody rapid, the PDK box seemed seamless and the quality was awesome!
And it had amazing grip in the wet

Not my cuppa, but then we can't all like the same things.
4wd dulls the 911-ness.
2wd GTS is a good buy at £65 - £70k from an OPC with 2 years warranty.

It does have to be a 991 just for the more modern look of the car.
Regarding the test drive, it's sometimes difficult to appreciate the car fully unless you do get the car for a weekend. I am quite interested in this purchase as he'd probably only keep it 3 years so could be a good second hand purchase for a friend

Hi, i'd definitly go for a 991 c2s coupe, i've been lucky enough to work for porsche as a tech for the last five years and have the luxury of being able to drive them all, the first 991 i drove was a c2 and untill i got out of the car and saw the black calipers i would have put money on it being an S, it felt as quick if not quicker than a 997 gen 2 carrera s, the power and sound was awesome it was a pdk and they sound quality when downshifting in sport plus mode with a sports exhaust, if you dont know they now have an inlet entering below the rear screen into the cabin to allow some of the engine noise into the car, this makes a real difference compared to the quite subtle sound of a gen 2 even with a sports exhaust, if i had the money to buy one, it would have to be a 991 c2s, black, black leather, pdk, sports plus, with proper paddle shift not steering wheel buttons (not sure if this is the only option for a 991 anyway, gen 2's could have either). Ian.
