Default £1500 to spend on cheap run about.. what would you look at?

After selling my Smart 4/2 last week to WeBuyAnyCar, I'm now looking to get another cheap run about.. cheap tax.. cheap ins.. good on fuel.

thinking ideally no more than £1500.. cheaper if possible

TBH.. stuff I've looked at so far is ruff... to say my wifes car is a 54 plate.. its still looked after and looks great after a wash and wax (you know what I mean), why do ppl sell cars saying the car is good condtion byt actually its more poor condition and not cared for???

What would you look at?

Can some one give me some ideas...
trying to look for low mileage cars too.

I've been thinking Fiat Punto 1.2 Active. Nice size car and cheap to run. Some I've looked at are more a shed.
Ebay seems to sell sheds.. cars with no history.. one even had no service book.

What else coudl I look at?

I walked away with £1052 (after they take their £50 off) and thats with them taking £108 off cus of a few scratches and the rattle.
I was Very Happy.

I'd have sold private at £1200.. but knowing I had a 'rattle' I couldn't take the risk with someone buying it in case there was something more to it. I had it service the day before I SOLD IT TOO, HAVING Full Service history helped but they couldn't find anything.

without laughing have you looked at micra's?! very cheap to run/tax/insure & parts are very cheap.

i have a M reg as a run around so scoob is kept for best, it cost me £350 to buy, 2 owners before me, 60K on the clock, service history, 12 month MOT, 4 mth tax, £328 to fully comp for me & the wife, uses 1 tank of fuel a month, tax just cost me £136 for 12 months (newer ones will be cheaper) its a little bargain & i do not mind driving it as i am happy knowing whats parked up at home

The front subframes can rot on Micra's so you need to look out for that, good car otherwise

40+ extra urban or most of them will if you drive like Miss Daisy. If not, at least you'll be having fun!

I have driven a Toyota Yaris diddy petrol thing today as a courtesy car. Dreadful interior but you can chuck it around like a little go kart, 50mpg on a 20 mile return urban grind. Quite impressed

I've done 80,000 in my Yaris. Go-kart handling, progressive in a slide, "floating" digital dash, 60mpg and nothing, but nothing has gone wrong in 7 years.

Personally I'd go for a Yaris or a Micra. They're both excellent at what they do, cheap to tax, sip fuel, and never break

The Yaris definitely has the edge in the handling department, but Micras have better cupholders

£328 to insure an m reg micra!

My choice at that price level would always be small Japanese and petrol.
