I looked at one of these not long ago, it seems to be a really good all rounder, got good write ups, very tempting.... I just (personally) would only buy a brand new French car with a full warranty. Used French car.... just not for me unless the price was very much in my favour.
I bet thats added to the confusion...

One of the ugliest cars ever imho. My brother had one for less than a year before he wrote it off. But whilst he had it he had driver and passenger electric windows fail and various other electrical gremlins I cant recall. Knowing that various other friends & family who have had the same and other electrical issues with renaults (power steering, airbags, car radio) I would never ever buy one.

Cheers for your comments guys..
Saw the car today..funny enough it has a window fault so must be a ongoing fault with these motors.
but...apart from the fat **** i think im going to go for it..
something a bit different from yer honda's and focus st's.
whats the worst that can happen..

have owned 2 meganes - diesels, not 225s, 1 for 2 years 50k miles (1 year old), another 18 months 20k miles (7 year old) up to now and absolutely batter it, not had a problem until this week, drivers door clicking, auto unlock not working (hand to handle) and window jerks up when open which is part of the clicking.
I did have an airbag light on on the first one but was down to loose wires under drivers seat (3 door), when seat moved forward a light would sometimes come on.
Nothing else
I would still have another whatever model

Funny enough spoke to a neighbour off mine just the other week who was moaning about his wifes year old renault megane and how the electric windows had failed already, not sure what other problems it has had but he did day we deffinatly wont be getting another renault.
to be honest a lot off folk rave about the 225 model and how prices have fallen over the last six months or so on them which now makes them a bargain, personally would not touch one knowing that sooner or later electrical problems will soon show up.

I've got an R26 at the mo as a second car, the handling is amazing and LSD makes a huge difference to how early you can get the power down. Also if your budget allows, the R26 recaro buckets seats are really supportive. Only complaint is that the cup chasis is a bit harsh on our rubbish roads. The electric window thing is not an expensive fix and if done at a dealer they will give a substantial discount as its a known issue. Mine has been fine
