The Audi tt rs is the fast one with standard form spec's of 2.5 five pot engine with 340bhp and 332 lb-ft and 0-60 in 4.6 and a top speed of 174 mph so it is a lot faster than the hairdresser can handle

That little 2.5 engine has won international engine of the year for the last 2yrs... http://www.ukipme.com/engineoftheyea...s_11/2_25.html
Mapped 335i is what 380hp so going to be very similar to the pace of its bigger 4.0 V8 brother yeah? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66DI53cVfnk
When you map a TTRS they do this....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AATsvLPXSM
There is very little out there that's going to be pushing 1 of these out of the way on British roads, the mighty GTR included in that also. MY12 GTR with 550hp does the ton in low 7secs, look at the vbox display figures in the video above (425bhp only)
As for tyres, 255/35/19 all round which I suspect is optimum for a car of this size. It doesnt have a problem putting the power down so opting for wider tyres would I suspect have a negative effect, more resistance, more weight, what's the point if it grips well enough as it does do?
As John says I sense with a bit of sarcasm, running costs are a major factor in deciding on what performance car to buy They were for me and hence why I never bought a C63 AMG/M3, the prettier R8 or indeed a Nissan GTR.
Audi's 2.5T has won the award 2yrs on the trot and is probably down to performance/economy/emissions, £245 road tax and 34mpg with performance in the low 3sec, low 7sec and mid 11's (with a £600 software tweak only) is an almighty achievement
Saying all that, I have 3 kiddies now and the TTRS is not practical for them, it may be getting chopped in for a Chelsea tractor soon.
Shall I say ill bow out now before the thread turns the way it usually does

And would you look at this... http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534101 or http://www.porscheboost.com/showthre...uggatti-Veyron
Shock horror.... Audi TTRS is more brutal and launches harder than a Nissan GTR (1.01g vs 0.96g)
Heavy old bugger that GTR, clearly no need for wider tyres on the TT then, traction perfect

We know that hence its slower than the MY03 Spec C and definately not as quick as the JDM Sedan that did the circuit in 7:55 with a fluffed gearchange
Still, its not a bad car, think I would rather have an R8 though

Doesn't have a problem spinning up the rears with 255 section tyres? Presumably then it doesn't put much torque to the rear?

Standard 340bhp power, grip isn't an issue, the 255 section is fine. Map it to 420 and it still grips very well, only occasionally will it spit the dummy and slip, usually when tarmac/tyres are cold.
Im not 100% sure on the bias, I have read 90F/10R until slip is detected and then 50F/50R until grip is established and then back to 90F/10R again or even 100F on the move.
Mk3 TT is due the tail end of next year, it will be interesting to see what they do with the new RS model. 2.5T Engine has already been upped from 340 to 360 for our friends across the pond. Europe following the same path in the next few months. I suspect the MK3 TT RS will be ITRO of 380-400hp.
