Very nice and looks in good condition. Would not class it as a mid life crisis, but a careful and slected choice of car

Very nice mate, I scratched that itch about 10 years ago had a mint 964, and it lasted about 3 weeks as I hated it. Loved the looks of it, but hated the clunky industrial drive that didnt even feel very quick.
I would have been in my late 20's or 30 about then, and fast was everything. Ironically at the ripe age of now 40 I would love a 964 now, as power and speed isn't everything anymore, and would love something a bit different and classy/classic.
What's really upsetting is I sold mine at the time for 16K, and would seem to be worth that now if I had kept it, so would have saved myself 0000000's if I had just kept it.

911s are faster than they feel though. I had a Varioram 993 which was a fantastic grand tourer - but whilst great to drive wasn't exciting to drive (to my taste) - and didn't feel particularly fast.
The reality was it was faster than my Sti V - over the quarter and to 100 - the former a real surprise as it was only RWD.

Thanks for the props, as Trout says, they are a lot faster than they feel. they seem to go a bit like a 2 stroke bike but with plenty of torque low down then it comes "on cam" at around 4k & takes off.
I think they feel slower because of how solid they are. My 135i has 300hp & the porka doesn't seem that much slower, it is also built to a better standard, 20 years old & virtually no trim rattles!

996 is the one you want to buy at the moment, Prices have hit rock bottom, few on Pistonheads from as little as 9k. And like most Porsches in a few years time they will be worth more money. Look at the 993 cant get one for less then 15k at the moment, But I remember about 5 years ago looking and they where a lot cheaper then what they are at now!!!
Thing is with a Porsche, Its always going to be a classic!!! I've read numerous threads on forums and had plenty of debates with friends on what they think would be a future classic, and there is always one car you can guarantee and that a 911. 996 will be more desirable in 10 years then it is now, maybe time to buy one!!!

I would say only a few 996 models are going to be classics, GT3, Turbo, C2S. The cooking 996 C2/C4 won't be worth big money IMHO, mainly due to the IMS/RMS issues, IMS in particular.
The Air Cooled stuff is a reasonably safe place to put your money, 993's are very desirable at the minute & will no doubt continue to rise in value. A lot of Porsche die hards won't drive the watercooled models. Me personally, I'd have a 991 or a 997 as a daily driver, I may px my 1 series in for a 997 C2/4s next year, depending on work.
I'll keep this car for as long as possible, enjoy it & improve it.
