Are you a male or a female?
A convertible anything is gay but if you are a chick you may just get away with it. Not a fan of the Mk1 TT at all, it is a little girly and the reson it was branded with the hairdresser image.
However, if you are serious about it and really like them the 1.8T engines are strong with not many problems. Coilpacks are common issues so give the car a good thrashing and make sure the engine warning light doesnt flash at you. (If it does, its the coilpacks) Cambelt service at 60,000, make sure it was done. All the rest, well common sense and generic to purchasing any car.
Is it a 180 or a 225 car?

I thought the 1.8T engines were renowned for timing belts slipping off or something as they got older?

You need to check the seats for silicone stains from leaking implants.

I found that the 1.8 was a bit gutless. The 225 was more Scooby-like performance.
