MX5's are for men who are men ..... men who talk about being men look elsewhere as they are so unsure of their masculinity needing to convince others of their testosterone levels.
There isn't a better all-round drivers car in the world ........ buy right and they don't lose any money either!

Lots of MX5 sheds about - sloppy, and falling to bits. Much like the the MGBs I've been working on of recent
Done a few engine builds on MX5s which have knackered the keyways on the crankshaft. A common and expensive issue if left and ignored.
And it seems every JDM import (or old pre-factory/OEM alarm UK model) has had its electrics/wiring wrecked or hacked to pieces by some dodgy alarm installer.

An MX5 is a step above any MGB ...... dear god, at least they start and run well.
The Crank nose issue is well documented and only an issue on the very early cars ... all been sorted out now. It's just the woodruf keyway anyway - simple fix.

I don't know. With the hacked wiring on some of the ones I've dealt with I'd spare my chances with an MGB (wire from battery to coil...job done ) - I just finished building and fitting an engine into a MGB v8 and tuning it up. SU HIFs and electrionic ignition give little worry once they are sorted. ( Still prefer a TR6 )
The GTs on pre wax-stat HS carbs are a bugger. Trying to stop it from running was actually more of an issue than trying to start it (pre ignition). My advice was to fit HIF carbs and decoke the cylinder head.
As for the MX5's woodruff: Leave the knacked woodruff for long on a MX and it wrecks the crank. Not a simple fix if left too late.
We also had a MX5 in last week needing new sills...due to RUST!! Good god it IS the next MGB!!

Live rear axle and lever-arm dampers....FFS even my Series 2 Landrover had telescopic dampers
Actually if sorted and in good repair its not too bad, but most have been bodged with poor quality telescopic conversions or are worn out. Much like the many MX5s bangers I have to endure - with badly suited aftermarket setups or just too worn out to make the car enjoyable.

The MX5s are prone to rust on the sills and the rear arches - the mk2's appear to suffer more than the mk1's.
The problem with the key on the crank affected early short crank engines. the later (1992 onwards) engines don't have this problem.
