my little baby is in me local garage having the heater matrix replaced so i have to drive around in a rover metro. 1.1 litre.
man it's horrible. it's like drivinge a plate of jelly.
having to park it round the corner at work so no-one sees me in it.
apologies to metro owners but they aren't far off the worst cars in the world.

Yep, utter crap, I had a GTI, very scary as it didnt handle and was fairly quick.

Dont see many these days, cant wait until BMW do a Retro Metro and everybody will forget what a pile of cack the original was.

Not mine Nath - power to weight ratio is the same as a UK scooby.
Along with Yoko moulded slicks, it's a right larf.

Thumbs down

Don't look on the NCAP site ~ rover100 gets ONE star.

The post-crash (at 40mph?) picture is frightening. Seriously.

Can see the appeal of a standard looking quick Metro, the thought of upsetting some ponce in a Boxster sounds satisfying.

hehe, I had one once a courtesy car, though mine was a tiptronic, er sorry I meant auto.
It was a pile of ****, but it got me to work for a week and my other was totalled.

Nath -

The spec is basically:

- 1340 A-series full-race engine (lightened, balanced et al)
redlines at about 7500rpm.
Normally Aspirated, so no complicated turbos to contend with.
- cross-pin diff, to take the power
- Metro Turbo vented 4 pot girling front brakes with Pagid Blue
pads
- Yoko A032R moulded semi-slick. Lowered with rate adjustable dampers.
- All stripped out with piped in extinguisher and six point
harness and full cage. Weighs < 750 kg and has 114 bhp.
- 0-60 about 6.5 seconds, flat out about 110mph

I have raced it in the Drayton Manor championship (www.mgmetrocup.co.uk) for the past three years. Its a good cheap entry into proper motorsport, and the car has humbled quite a few "superior" vehicles on track. (Jag Mk2's, MGB's, TR's)

I had an A reg MG Metro when I was 18 back in 92 as my first car, big ends went so eventually had a mate drop an ex-jalop engine in it (without telling insurance..ooops!) rather quick when it was running, use to love beating all my mates Nova SR's and GTE's,but thinking back, overall it was really a pile of poo. The worst car i've owned, sold for parts in the end.

dela, very nice ...that would be my ideal spec for a courtesy car Did it cost a lot to get it like that?
