I'm back having located the source of the noise. If you look in the centre of the picture there are two brown things. The one at the rear is the source of the noise. If i unplug the air hose going to it or the electrical connector, the noise doesn't occur. So what is the brown thing? Can i take it apart and lube it or similar?

The brown valve at the rear is the vacuum solenoid for the turbo's variable-nozzle mechanism, the one at the front controls the EGR valve. All the vac lines are linked back to the vac pump which also works the brake servo.
I believe the noise is caused by air re-entering the vacuum system at some point when the vac pump stops pumping, i.e. when you switch off. Not sure exactly where the air gets in, however.
As long as the car is running fine with no boost problems, I wouldn't worry.
I ran a Mondeo IV 2.0 TDCI for over 3 years, really good car, served me brilliantly. It too started making the farting / duck noise after 2 years but was never a problem.
The one thing that is worth checking on these is the hose clips on the boost pipes to and from the intercooler, and to the inlet manifold. The hoses are hard plastic and often not well fitted, so they leak a bit at the joints -- especially the hose from the intercooler to the inlet manifold. If you remove the driver's-side headlamp you can get at this easier, and ensure the pipe ends are snug and tight. Makes a noticeable difference to throttle response and economy.

LMFAO!!!
I have a Mondeo TDCI. Whatever is making that noise, let me know.
I WANT MINE TO MAKE IT!!
My kids were literally rolling on the floor when they heard that!! IMO, leave it and start up as a childrens entertainer, you'll make a fortune.....

Think I may have found the source of the mooing
The little valve circled in the pic here is a one-way valve, in the main vac line from the vac pump. It's meant to protect the VNT & EGR actuators, solenoids etc from reversals of pressure, so they can only be sucked, but not blown
Looks like it's got a hole in it, where it's fretted against that big hose clip. That will be letting air into the system and causing the noise, I'll bet.

The problem was / is the rear brown thingy. If you pull one of the hoses off (assuming your problem is the same as my Dad's the the sound doesn't happen.
I checked what Brickboy suggested above but what is circled is not a hole.

Hi there the brown thingy that your on about is called a pressure converter turbocharger i have been searching the web and found another forum and this chap said it just needs changing so im off down ford tomorrow to find out how much they are and if you can just change them without having to regenerate the engine management to tell its there i will keep you posted and hopfully get it sorted

Good work - an idea of the price would be good. I've never bothered too much about it as it's Dad's car so i don't have to put up with it, although i may be taking it off his hands at some point

Hi been to ford and it is £88.00 and you don't have to regenerate it to the engine so you can just replace it. you have to order it in at are ford dealer so not been able to do the job yet Hope this has helped
