I think this is the pre-2003 330d/X5 (2.9L) engine with about 184bhp so it's worth researching that. When it comes to selling a RR it will be much easier to sell if it's a Vogue, in the right colour e.g. Silver and Black most popular. High mileage shouldn't be a concern, but good history and condition more important. Worth looking at www.brightwells.com .

If it's the same engine as the 330D, the injectors are liable to pack up and they're £200 or so a time to replace. My 330D is on 85k miles and I've had to replace the whole set

On older models, the transfer box and air suspension could definitely be a cause for concern. Nowadays, lack of use is more likely. Check absolutely everything works electronically as it's a very complicated car, compared to a 530d for example.
Something else has just occurred to me, which could apply to any secondhand car purchase of this age. Instead of getting an expensive RAC inspection, why not take a punt and pay for a fresh MoT. The advisory list will no doubt flag up 'excessive play in ball joints' or whatever, giving you something to haggle against. If there are no advisories, go ahead and buy the car - it will have 12 months MoT too!

But will the MOT pick us stuff like the transfer box not working or the air suspension not fully going up and down ? Or all the electrics or the A/C. Depending on the price of the vehicle then a Range Rover specalist inspection would be the safest bet as would some kind of warranty 3rd party or LR one.
Really like Range Rovers but would only take a punt on a new leased one !

My parents have a MY04 RR 4.4 vogue. The 4.4 is a cracking engine, super smooth with the auto box, quiet etc and can averages nearly 19mpg, not quite as good as the diesel, but not for off and has 100hp+ more.
BUT - they do need looking after, major issues have been failed diff and box, minor issues have been rust, oil leaks, failing wiper motors etc all of which add up. But they have a LR warranty which has been a god send, but costs £1000+ a year.
According to this year's what car, they are THE MOST unreliable car in the UK

We have a 4.4 V8 L322.
Its a great machine, but put £3k to one side for bits and bobs! If you come out the other side with change - great.
Ours has had in the last 3 years:
Gearbox
Rad
Alternator
2 calipers
Various bushes
2 air springs
Various minor fualts
New folding mirror assy
Also as day to day running its had a full set of discs and pads and other little things. A basic service is about £350 at an indy.
Ours does about 12mpg, but its all urban.
