As title really - looking to spend £6 - 7k
1.9 tdi A4 cabrio....... anything to really look out for?
I had an S4 Avant, and it was pretty bullet-proof.... but it was a few years older than what she's looking at....
Thoughts?

Have you had a 1.9TDI in any shape or form before? Whilst they're good units, they're not what you would call civilised by today's standards. Add that to a converible/cabriolet and it could grate enough to take the edge off the top-down experience.
On the positive side, as far as the engine is concerned, there are millions of units in service and probably millions of forum posts discussing them. It's not hard to find helpful advice or a useful independent garage.

my dad has a 2.5tdi cab, he loves it, and it is a lovely car, well made, but the engine is horrible, unrefined and underpowered, if it were me, i would most likely go for the 1.8t.

The 2.5 Tdi is horrible, but the 1.9 is a bullet proof engine - be interesting to see which level of tune she gets though.
Oh I got a soft top A3 on loan when my A4 was in for more oversight work and it was bloody horrible. Really noisy, and dark when the roof is up. Not a car I'd recommend to anyone tbh.

What I think is: The 1.9TDI will be fine moving around but in once stationary or stop/start you can't get away from the diesel clatter. It's not a soulful engine, it's either a washing machine or a cement mixer with bricks aurally.
I've a Fabia VRS, a mate has a 2002 Golf V6. I can't even tell the engine's on in his unless he revs it.
The common rail stuff is better. The Honda 2.2 is mooted to be a very able unit.
