You need to pop this into the projects section and then add a shed load more photos of the build
What sort of power and performance do you get?

I saw an old Mk1 GTi (1800) in Porthcawl lately, all tyres flat, looking a bit mossy. I think it'd only take £500 waved in the owners face to have it. I may pop back!

AUQ and BAM engines are completely different from each other, that looks like an AGU to me.

Tidy install mate. What gearbox is it 02a?

Any better pics of the outside?

yep, i now. auq 180bhp bam 210bhp.
but same mounts/fit, still basicly the same sort of engine

im interested in the box mainly, 5 or 6 speed.
and yep, the older type that they put in the a3 1.8t/early golf 1.8t (agu)

car should be pushing 220-235 bhp but im not getting it on the road this year as im going to get my ko3s turbo hybrid. which then should be pushing 270bhp. reason i got a agu engine was they 400 quid. a bam engine you looking 1800 quid, the agu engine has the large port head and forge pistons standard plus if it goes bang i get another . cars running wasted spark with a peugeot 307 coil pack with mk2 16v ht leads. on megasquirt mangement. yes they all use the same engine mounts agu comes with ko3 turbo 150bhp, then you have the ko3s turbo then the ko4 turbo which is on the bam engines. but when a ko3 or ko3s is hybrid bye bye ko4. im running a 5 speed 02a gearbox with a carrodo cable shifter mounted ontop of tunnel. but i have just brought another spare 02j gearbox which i will fitting a lsd winter time. car only weighs 850kg. i just fitted some carrodo g60 280mm brakes on the front i get some more pitures weekend

the mounts you can buy of the shelf. the gearbox got 2 custom mounts cost me 70 quid hers the gearbox

mounts you can buy all 3 for 120 quid.all bolt straight on .the cambelt tensioner need to be swapped for a mk2 16v one so the mount will fit . ive never ever done anything like this before the only thing i ever did was change the oil, filter on my subaru. i went out and brought a halfords pro tool box and done alot of reading and i did it lol

Where is the k03s coming from mate? I think you'll be lucky to get more from it than a k04.

TH3 5T1G - There is every bit of information about it on clubgti.com you could ever ask for. It's a pretty straight forward conversion if you get one of the bigger engined mk1's. Anything bigger than a 1.5 iirc

Nice car Peter, bet it's alot of fun to drive

I agree with the lag, k03 base is much better in a smaller car.

Look forward to seeing it progress mate

Love it, I expect that even with a lower power unit it will still be plenty quick enough.

well bodyshop rang me today and said my arches inner and out and sill were rotten as !!!!. they said whom ever painted it last just filled over everything (wounded). so i went down today and cried like a baby on the floor. im gutted when i brought the car last year everything was fine checked everything but all was hidden. went home sat down and i was gunna buy a rolling shell of my m8 but fought no rot ant gunna defeat me and i wanted to save another mk1 so rang body shop and said all parts will be with them by weekend. all the work i did on engine converstion i wasnt letting this shell go. its not that bad just arches mainly.

so i ordered

rear both inner arch
rear outter arch
both sills
rear panel
repair panel fuel
lucky the rear axel mounts are intact
