How difficult is it to strip the seat cover to get at the mechanism?

Might be worth an hour of your time to remove the seat from the car and flip it over and have a look from different angles. Also speak to the stealership parts dept - this could be a common problem/fix.

It can probably be welded, and youd be surprised how easy an expert can strip the upholstery off it. See an independent Audi expert.

The Recaro bucket versions can be stripped right down to the metal frame. So I guess its possible (with care) to do the same with the standard seats.

Which bit is broke? The rake adjustment for the seat back or the sliding runners on the base? IIRC the latter just unbolts from the bottom of the seat.

If you can strip the seat around the broken part maybe it can be welded/riveted back on?

I see you are in Manchester. I use Awesome GTi for my wife's A3 and they know their stuff.
