Default Westfield/Caterham types

Morning,

Thinking of getting one at some point in the future, so be interested in views of anyone who's had one?

First of all, I'm 6ft3, so is my height going to be an issue? I drove one many years ago and seemed to recall it being a tight fit. However I've also driven the cars at the Palmer day events, and they were okay?

In terms of what I want it for, I imagine it will be a bit like my bike now, warm/dry days and the odd trackday, although with Blyton opening up nearby, it could be a few more trackdays. That probably brings me on to the engine. Would a V8 be a bit heavy for a trackday? When I ask that, of course a V8 will do a trackday, but would I be better off with a 2litre/1.8 etc, extra weight and all that? There is however a little red devil sat on my shoulder shouting V8 V8 V8......(are they £450 road tax?)

Lots more FAQ's and forums to read, and I'm going to try get along to some meets and go look at a few cars. There is also a 'well know' V8 for sale nearby at the moment. If it's still available later on this year, then I could be tempted.

Cheers

Qwerty - have you done Blyton since the re-vamp?
I'm thinking of doing the Javelin day on the 23rd July but it looks like they let about 40 cars on an open pit lane day.
Seems too many IMO.

No, not done it, so can't comment on capacity issues. Sorry.

I would stick to a 150-200hp 4 pot n/a engine this makes the most of the lateral grip! I believe some models have lowered floors. Tax is capped at £230 I think?!?!

You could go for the bike engine Mac 1 .My mate has one and it goes like stink and the lighter engine helps with balance .Very raw ,very noisy ,but very good fun .!!

After owning an Elise too, it's not until you get to ~500Kg's that the magic starts happening. My MAC was corner weighted at 520Kg's with full fluids

Ah right, you've caught me there - so to clarify, I tried quite a few kit cars and found pretty much all of them very cramped. Tiger, Westfield (didn't try the wide version) and MK Indy. All of these had very little leg room, and also too narrow in the seat channel so hips would just squash. Total no-no

The Mac has plenty of room (rather than only just fitting :-)) both in width and height, and I have a long body in relation to my height, so even have head room clearance with a lid on...

HTH's

i have a Tiger

and agree with the tight footwell space

my car has a modification -- as you can see in the pic

the footwell is boxed out by a inch -- makes all the difference

Always thought about a Caterham but also 6ft3 and big boned I know Caterham do the Series V (SV) which is supposed to be a wider and roomier. No idea if they're any good though?
