I have had the body off on the earlier 2.7 v6 discovery and it is not as difficult as you would think .A bit daunting but now i have done one it would not worry me to tackle another one.Wizz

Typical Honest John Bull Crap- its not a design defect, its just the way it is. Most modern cars aren't built to be repaired, so loads of cars are like this in terms of build stupidity when a non-maintenance item needs replacing or repairing.
A true design defect is where the basic service items are inaccessible.....For example, on some cars you need to remove the entire front end to get at the cambelt (most Audis), or remove the inlet manifold to get at the spark plugs (Shogun v6, Jag AJV6, Ford V6 petrol etc) or remove the entire engine to check and shim the valve clearances (Impreza ). Most cars have no drain taps for the cooling system and some air lock when refilled (now that IS a major design defect, ahem, K-series). And some cars clog up the DPFs for no reason (VAG) and go into melt-down when doing a forced regen (like the Pug 307 we did a few week back that decided to run off its own engine oil - which wouldn't have been needed in the first place if it didn't have a stupid inaccessible fluid tank that has to be regulaly refilled with eloys fluid ).
Did a RR sport turbos a few months back: https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...6&postcount=38
Actually not as hard as it looks. It took about the same time to remove the body as it did for me to change the subframe mounts on my Jag (don't ask; I was having an 'off' day). Just means the car's stuck on the lift for however long it takes to complete the job (we could put the body on dolly wheels and wheel it out the way, but it'll be a 'mare to line it all back up again).
And of course to test it, it has to be put all back together again.
The 6pot BMW engined RRs are far more pleasant to work on.

i used to do them in a day with an apprentice , body off roll chassis out , even with the body off it is still abit of a fiddly job to do it but once you have done 1 its not so bad , doing the belts was a fun job though lol
i also di a full body harness on a disco 3 when they came out , that was fun

I just have visions of my mate's old Lotus Europa, and trying to get the body off that little swine to weld up the front of the chassis.
He forgot about undoing one of the earth straps and ripped a lump of glassfibre off it :-/
