Someone here at work's considering one and asked my opinion. Dunno much about them so thought I'd throw it to the floor.

Yummy!
Came 7th in Evo Mag Car Of The Year in 2000 (?) ...which doesn't sound amazing, but the opposition was class.
Described as "a limo with Impreza pace" or something like that. Tiptronic is apparently good.
S6 better still, but not worth the extra dosh....

Had a test drive in an A6 4.2 Q last year. It did not have the punch of a scoob...but worse than that, on bumby B roads it has all over the place
A mate also had a go and was most disappointed with it...even though he is an Audi fan and drives a 2.3 Q coupe.
I think they are best suited to motorway/A roads. The build quality is tops though...interior is solid.
Driving my scoob after that test drive has made me appreciate it a LOT more

Peter, he's not really a 'sporting' driver like you and I. But I understand that the S6 is meant to be a lot better in this regard - as you'd probably expect actually

Ah, remember you get two different types of A6 4.2. You get a 4.2 quattro(for the "luxury" types) and you get a S6 4.2 quattro(for the "sport" types). But unfortunately their both only available as auto's.
RS4, now that's a different ball game completely. I have chipped a few for customers including racing cat's, and their absolutely fantastic.
Got to get me one of those!

If your ever in Cornwal and want a ride in my S6 you are more than welcome.. The power and torque are amazing.. and the tiptronic gear box is superb.. It changes up right on the red line.. I don't think that you could do it any better in a manual!!
I'm well chuffed.. just waiting on my RS6!
