Default proper supercars

Just wondering how many of you have had the honour of driving a proper supercar and how do they really compare to our 'normal' fast cars? What I mean by a supercar is something like a 911 turbo, lambo gallardo/ merciallago, aston martin etc etc. I drove my P1 today for the first time in about 2 weeks its around 340 bhp and tbh I havnt driven it much since before xmas. I totally forgot how it made me feel, its awesome lol but how would it compare to bently or a ferrari?

Inlaws had a 355 Ferrari which I drove a bit but the Evo FQ360 I tested was actually quicker.

Driven a Aston DB9 and 550 Marrinello,996 turbo which i would consider to be true super cars as it where and tbho they are in a different league to how they make you feel when driven, saying that i a get a good feeling from driving a Range Rover which some how makes you feel special too.
Performance wise the 996 and 550 where pretty responsive to say the least and it would take quite a high powered scoob to even come close!

In terms of performance, a properly set up 340bhp classic is just as quick as some "supercars" IMHO, particularly off the line up to around 100-115mph (going by personal experience).

Supercars will always be better refined and nicer to own though.

Dual clutch gearboxes make all the difference to performance times with seamless gearshifts.

Would you miss the shove in your back at every gearchange though? I'm not sure, might have to give a PDK equipped car a go

Sure, isn't the P1 actually classed as a supercar, as it covered a certain distance in X time??

A P1 takes exactly the same time as my soot chucking hearse to get to 100 - so I wouldn't call it a supercar!

Having lived with a 996tt X50 for nearly 2 years, I wouldn't call it a 'supercar'.

It's a super car alright, and fecking rapid, but I can't put it in the same league as a Lambo/Fezza etc.

The only Porsche that I'd call a supercar is the CGT, GT1 and at a push the GT2 RS.

Having said all that, when my car was new nearly 8 years ago, it was close to being one of the fastest production car available new.
Times have changed. (but it's still nippy )

P1 introduced in 2000, 335d in 2006 - so only six years.

To put that into context and I quote zip

But I wouldn't have called the P1 a supercar even in 2000 - honestly.

Cracking motor but not supercar quick.

It is hard to bracket what is a super car.

A GT3 used to be a super car in evo - now simply demoted to being a Coupe.

A GTR should be a supercar based on its 'Ring time, but it is also just a coupe.

I think a GT2 RS is a supercar, but we now have hypercars such as Zonda F, Enzo and Veyron.

The definition is very blurred now.

There are plenty of chavvy classics that are rapid to 100, but they are not supercars by any stretch of the imagination!

I regard any car that can do 200mph as a super car no matter what shape it is

P1 was never a supercar, but known as a supercar killer. A fairly ordinary looking car that could go supercar quick (up to a point).

Most will class a F360 as a supercar (as it is), but it was far from fast and the likes of a everyday supercar (996 Turbo) could run rings around it.

Definition of a supercar is blurry and subjective.

Amid ominous descriptions of groups of pro-Gaddafi militiamen gathering on the roads around Tripoli, there were reports that the minaret of a mosque in Zawiya – 30 miles west of Tripoli, where protesters had claimed victory – was being pounded by heavy weapons. Troops were said to be filling the streets of Sabratha, 50 miles to the west of the capital. A Libyan newspaper reported that in Zawiya 10 people had been killed, and a witness told the BBC that pro-Gaddafi forces had used machine-guns on unarmed residents in a main square of the city.

its an interesting debate abotu the P1, define a super car?

is it top speed, is it 0-60, is it point to point speed?

Take a 355 ferarri, at the time (1995) it was considered a supercar, 0-60 was 4.7 second, top speed 158mph

a classic sti from similar age (1998, figures taken from same site) 0-60 5.3 top speed 154mph.

so there not that far apart performance wise, so does that mean it is a supercar, or not? think it will depend on your opinion

Top speed of a 355 was/is 186mph.

I reckon 180 was the goal for a supercar a while back, then 190, now it's 200.

hinteresting, looks like dodgy info there,

came from www.conceptcarz.com

just had a look again, it seems to go up year on year, 95 = 154, 96 = 173, 97 = 183

But they can't even spell "cars!"

Got mine from here:

http://fastestlaps.com/cars/ferrari_f355.html

Even my soot chucker can do over 160 if delimited so 158 is pretty poor!

Oooh sorry angry, bleating man - I appear to have upset you again.

Stating that what is being called a "supercar" is actually the same/slower than a diesel auto estate (which ISN'T a supercar) is VERY relevant to this thread.

Here's a tip for you - if you don't like what I say IGNORE it. Simple and saves your high blood pressure issues getting dangerous.

Muppet.

Tidgy - very true!

Anyway I've not driven a modern "supercar" - I'd probably crash it into a tractor anyway. IMO something like a 997.2 Turbo S is all the "supercar" you'll ever need. Destroys most of the mad stuff like Lambos and can be driven on normal roads without ripping the sides off.

"Supercars" may be fun abroad but in the UK they're a little bit silly.

I'm lucky enough to have driven quite a few of these cars as I'm a member of a supercar club....... (basically get to rent them for as long as I choose !)

Some are absolutely to die for but MOST are over priced, over hyped, and yes some well modded Subaru's would give them a very hard time. Ha !

A few pictures of some of the cars I have had the pleasure of driving !

Enjoy !

458 Ferrari is the best car I have ever driven by far !
