proper supercars
the p1 is classed as a supercar but only because it was the only way they could import 1000 2door shells into the uk, without having to go through sva laws etc i believe. It met the criteria for a supercar at that time quite easily too 0-60 4.6 etc etc. Some good points here though and different opinions on what is truly a supercar. Me personally, i think its more about how a car makes you feel by how it drives and looks, no doubt there are supercars out there that some people want and others wouldnt want. Give me any lambo and id be happy, but i dont like bentley continentals, its each to their own.
I'm lucky enough to have driven quite a few of these cars as I'm a member of a supercar club....... (basically get to rent them for as long as I choose !)
Some are absolutely to die for but MOST are over priced, over hyped, and yes some well modded Subaru's would give them a very hard time. Ha !
A few pictures of some of the cars I have had the pleasure of driving !
Enjoy !
458 Ferrari is the best car I have ever driven by far !

you are way over qualified to contribute to this thread, this thread is purely for “pub talkers”

This is a cut and paste from P1woc - hope it helps clarify.
Keith Hadley the Group Homologation Manager at International Motors spent nearly 6 months in total obtaining the necessary certification for both the 276bhp engine and the different body. The car is homologated under the "Supercar" rules which allowed one extra decibel on the noise tests, but to qualify the car has to be able to accelerate in third gear between two fixed points within a specified time. The P1 qualified, and can now officially be classed as a "Supercar".
By the way Ricky jealous +1

Thanks for the kind comments guys...... The way I see it is I will never be able to afford to neither sit in, let along drive any of these cars and although the car club isn't the cheapest thing in the world it lets me drive many super cars without the need for huge ownership, depreciation, servicing, and insurance costs...... I think it works..... Just waiting for the new McLaren and Murcielago to appear this year..... LOL.
Saying as the 458 seems to be the car of choice in this thread here are a few more photo's. Apologies in advance to the guys who have a slow internet connection !!!!!

Hope you guys like it..... it is one of the real good cars..... Unbelievable sound, the slickest gear change you ever seen in your life and just one of those real good feel factor cars. To say I love it is an understatement. If I had the money now, out of all the cars I've ever driven (and I have had fun in them all), but the 458 is the ONLY one I would actually buy. Well maybe the LP-560 too but the rest....... good fun for a day or two, but happy enough to leave them back having got it out of my system.......
Last post for a while as I'm heading skiing now.....
Enjoy !

It may be that I am not brilliant at maths but I work it out that for £17,500 I can have six (three day) weekends in the types of cars in the photos above for a total of 1,800 miles.
I appreciate all the fun choices on offer, but the reality is less convincing than the business case. Certainly E25 overstate the ownership of some high end cars in terms of depreciation and insurance. Cost of capital/depreciation is always a difficult one though!

I'm not trying to advertise the club here but I personally think its great !!!!! I know its not for everyone, but let me give you an example....
7 grand a year member ship gets you 500 credits, which ultimately will get you anything between 25 -60 days depending on which cars you take or how many miles you do in them. So lets say you take all the most expensive cars and get the minimum number of days which is approximately 25. £7000 divided by 25 days equal £280 per day for to be handed the keys of 100 - 200 grand cars, to do as you please with (not supervised like track days) and be fully covered for insurance. If I turned the tables and asked one of you guys who owned a 200 grand 458 to give me it for the day and cover me for insurance for less than 300 quid..... I personally don't think you would do it..... I certainly wouldn't. LOL..... so I think its not bad value over the year assuming you take a good selection of all the groups of cars and don't take them all at the weekends !!!! Just my pennies worth !!!!!!
Oh and I'm not saying that a 458 for a day will cost you £280 but it will average out around that price if you take cars from all the categories !!!! People will find ways of making it sound unattractive, but as I said earlier, its not for everyone, but it is for me !!!!!!!!
Hope it helps a little to explain the way the club works !

I'm miserable Trout..... I take all the cars through the week as my job allows me to do that and you get much more driving for your money than if you take them at peak times..... ie/ weekends !!!!!
Oooh sorry angry, bleating man - I appear to have upset you again.
Stating that what is being called a "supercar" is actually the same/slower than a diesel auto estate (which ISN'T a supercar) is VERY relevant to this thread.
Here's a tip for you - if you don't like what I say IGNORE it. Simple and saves your high blood pressure issues getting dangerous.
Muppet.

you really are a 'newage' PSL
Let this thread serve its purpose without cluttering it with unconstructive dribble like you insist on doing
Thats all from me
What a sh*tty old soot chucker that appears to be as quick as some of these so called supercars?
Better than a near two tonne, 8 year old old barge with sh*t steering that relies on a big motor to try and make it interesting eh?
Now your threads are the funny ones - do you do ANYTHING but moan and bleat then get angry when someone disses your chavvy alloys? Thought not.
Everyone else - fine with my posts (or they at least tolerate them) - you and fellow loser fivetide - get all angry and start spitting feathers. Hey I never jump in on others and insult them. Why not? Well it doesn't take a phd in psychology to answer that.
Ricky - absolutely bloody stunning. Tell us more about what it was like to drive!

They are the figures from the configurater (from memory), so I may be wrong?
I hav a friend who has a skyline r34, whos let me drive it now and again
for me this has to be the working mans super car, it runs a reliable 550-600bhp will return 25mpg, driven off boost!!! hit 205mph and lap the ring in 8 mins flat both witnessed by me in the passenger seat. He paid about 20k for it 4 years ago. Not bad value i think. And it turns more heads than anything ive seen.

Ricky,
I completely get the concept, and in many ways it works. The 458 is 52 points for a weekday and 100 miles. So based on your 'costs' that is £728 per day. This is still cheaper than mid-week hire, but not that much cheaper as I can get one for about £800 per day.
On the positive side - no worries of care and you can plan to have the car and really enjoy it for the day.
And the other thing is that you are actually doing it - which puts you at a tiny percentage from all those that just talk about it.
