Officially 333bhp, originally an e34 540i V8 lump enlarged to 4.6 by casting their own block, and then lots of body mods and plenty of lube to shoehorn it into the e36 shell.
Slightly higher power to weight than an e46 M3, but with tonnes more torque. Pop it into 6th at 25mph/ 800rpm and it just grunts away.
Rare car too- this is the only one ever sold in the UK. At £65k in 1997, it's hardly surpising.
And yes, the wood is bloody awful. As chance would have it, I'm a cabinet maker, so a new year project could be in order soon.

Could have got you killed!
Seriously though nice car, does the presumably increased weight over the front wheels affected handling or has this been sorted already?

Thanks for all the comments
I think I saw the M3 vs B8 clip on YouTube when doing my research: they were VERY evenly matched.
I thought the B8 held it's own very well as the manual box is pretty slow and cumbersome (especially compared to SMG) and the B8 in the vid probably had many more thousand miles under it's belt than the M3.
I've driven both- the b8 does feel quicker but probably isn't. It's possibly the torque, and the fact that it's a smaller, older, noisier car.
Apparently it's only around 20kgs heavier than an e36 M3 evo, and Alpina are notoriously good at ride and handling. The car is pretty fresh in terms of springs, dampers and bushes, and feels nice and tight when pushing on, but settles down when cruising. I'm pretty impressed so far, especially for an old motor.
