As a former Scooby owner I used to run my scoob 95% of the time on shell V power, now I have a 530d. My question is do you put shell V power in your deisel, Are the pros same as petrol.
Does your OBC state you get more mpg as shell claim it does on petrol, can you feel any differance in running V power. Or is this just going to waste money every fill up.
Cheers

we have tried city diesel on our newish 2151cc Mercedes Sprinter which has a pretty modern engine (same as the one on cars AFAIK) and it made not one jot of difference on mpg or drive-ability.
We also tried the BP one, nothing changed!

Just been reading shell web site, claims to clean and protect. Also said that they do not claim any increase in mpg.
Thing is as it holds 70 litres so to use two full takes will take a month, unlike the late scoob two weeks max.

What a load of cods wallop!
Put normal diesel in and feel happy that you've saved yourself some money.
I've tried this performannce stuff for a week, running a mini cooper d, and it made no difference to the car, just made my wallet a bit lighter.

Yeah but to be fair the diesel in the Mini is a bit... well ordinary is a polite way of putting it whereas these big BMW diesels are quite sophisticated and may well see a benefit from the more advanced fuel.

The new mini D is actually pretty advanced. It has new generation injectors, runs a high pressure common rail system with a particulate filter to reduce sooting. Which i thought i'd mention, also has an additive bag in tank to reduce carbon deposits and aid in the burning off of any soot that is produced. Granted it's not as up there as the current BMW dervs but is still very advanced.
Not only that, but we don't sell our 335d/535d with a label on the fuel flap saying "super diesel only"

I was simpy opining that maybe the bigger BMW engines may see some benefit from the advanced fuel. Just a thought and nothing more.

My boss has a Volvo D5 and his mechanic swears by Shell V Power Diesel. He rekons there is so much less wear and tear to the engine upon any strip downs he has done.
If I had a 200bhp+ diesel I would deffo be putting the stuff in.

Wear and tear?? He strips down the fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pump??
Or strips the engine apart all the time?? why??
The only bearing i can see where he is coming from, is that there might be less deposits in the oil when it is removed. However the job of protecting engine internals is down to the engine oil, not the diesel fuel.
each to his own i suppose.
Not flinging mud at anyone here, but untill i can see some hard and verified evidence of the fuel being better, i'll happily sit in the "budget" side of diesel purchases thanks

It's just marketing waffle and in some cases, near blackmail. "You want to look after you expensive car don't you? Well you SHOULD use this overpriced fuel then."
Nope - I don't buy it.
All evidence I've seen so far is just through vacuous opinions. No hard facts. Ever.

Interesting thread.
So what is the actual difference between super diesel and diesel? We all know that SUL does make a difference especially on turbo charged cars. On my Scoobs the car felt way different if I was ever forced to put 95 Ron in it and I've always run my AMG and M5 on SUL.

tbho the only real advantage to using 'super diesel' is the fact it doesn't have as much of an effect on the clogging up of the inlet manifold and egr valve ie not as much carbon deposits
