Yeah right on mate. Grab em by le bollox and sort em out.
Seriously, I would reject the car. Its not of merchantable quality, and the dealer sound like they are unhelpful tw@ts.

I can probably guess the dealer.
I walk in to test drive 16v.
"I'd like to test drive that 16v"
"Are you going to buy it?"
"I don't know, I'd like to drive it first"
"Sorry, unless you order it you can't drive it"
"I'd like to speak to the manager please"
"I am the manager Sir"
"So, let me get this right, you want me to pay a non-returnable deposit to buy this car before I can test drive it"
"Thats right, its company policy"
"Thank you for your help, BYE!"
So I bought a Skoda!

DrEvil,
Very interested to hear what has happened as I own a 5 week old Clio.
Just out of interest are we talking about the dealer in Epsom or the Dealer in Kingston??
Either way I have some interesting stories from both...

Spooky Tavia, I could have swore I heard that from a Subaru dealer in Doncaster? Next time I am up there I am going to go round in my UK300.
Alex, sorry to hear of your troubles, hope you get it sorted soon. Jen.

Sorry to hear that mate...bad dealers are the worst..I tried 4 scooby dealers before settling on my current scooby dealer, and tried 4 Audi dealers before I sold that in disgust.
It's a blessing in disguise anyway dude, the lightweight 172 is just around the corner

No problems with my local dealer Olympian in Poole. Drove both the 172 and the V6 sport, with no problem. They even let me have the V6 for a couple of hours with no supervision !! After driving both and then a Civic Type R, went for the CTR, much better build, drive etc...
Bought a new Scenic RX4 for the Missus, had a few teething problems (parking sensors and incorrect mats)and the Dealer has sorted thing out rapido ! Excellent service, no complaints.
Go and see the Guys in Poole, if you're not too far away, tell them I recommended them.
All the best,
Darrell

I bought a used clio 16v a few yrs ago from a Renault garage in Woking.
They were ****e from day one and it had to go back about 10 times in 18 months.
I phoned Renault UK and they soon changed their act.
What was your problem?

I used to have a Clio 16V and I have to say that my local dealer was absolutely bloody awful - bad service, ridiculously expensive, rude, late, never cleaned the car, never had a courtesy car available (despite telling me when I bought the car that I could use the manager's motor if there was nothing else available), frankly completely incompetent bunch of idiots. Renaults - nice cars - sh1te aftersales in every way as far as I have ever experienced.
Rant over.

I would have to disagree with Modra about Olympian in Poole, whilst I have not bought from them they did try and stitch me up about 300 pounds on a new gearbox for my old 19 16v and always were the most expensive for servicing.
Their excuse was, 'Oh sorry, we quote for the wrong part '
I had the new milton dealer haggling with them in the end as to who would do the work -
They quoted me 560 for something I eventually got done for 400 near Dorchester, only 30 miles away.
I would try Bride Valley motors near Dorchester, I was very impressed with them. Even Brian Whitesides were better than Olympian

I work for Renault V.I. but in the Commercial and Fleet Management side (even though were owned by Volvo ...confused yet? )
Although its nothing to do with Renault UK (car side), I've experienced nothing but hassle with my local dealers.
Since I picked up a new Laguna dCi in the early part of last month, it has had a few teething problems.... firstly with the gear linkage not finding 1st gear and going straight into reverse and another with the Service light displaying an SRS warning light. The problems I can put up with, but having to wait weeks to get them to look at it is ridiculous.
I wish now I went for a Volvo, but the car tax would of went through the roof, not only that but I read some great reports on the Laguna which is what swayed me over to it...its a shame the dealer network cant back up their own product

Well, thanks for the info guys n gals - can't believe you've experienced the above - especially the unless you buy it you can't test drive it!
47 NAT - so you don't get any better help when you work for them
Well, I've canned my order today - so back to the drawing board.
Squeaker's (her login on here!) got a courtsey car as of tonight and her will be looked at tomorrow by the supply dealer - I can't say too much at the moment, but I will summarise the outcome once we have a workin' car!
Cheers for the info - i feel better now I'm not buying one...
Looked at a six month old Impreza GX tonight (Sept '01) - might not leave the fold entirely, just the loose the turbo aspect
Might go and look at Hondas at the weekend, anyone dealt with HONDA???
Cheers, Alex

DrEvil,
A leper would seem to get treated better
I use to work for Honda and IMHO you cant beat the sound of working V-tech engine, it just sounds awesome I use to prefer driving the Type R to my Cossy (350bhp) and it use to handle like it was on rails....

I had a Honda Civic VTi-S for 3 years and had quite a few problems with the clutch (wasnt my drving before you say )
7 clutches, 2 slave and one master cylinder and it was fixed, but the dealership were superb - even gave me a Intergra R twice as a relief car !!! Totally recommend Honda.

Cheers peeps!
Hmm... I'll take a look at Honda
But, current the Impreza GX is looking likely.. at least then I can take my alloys, quick shift, strut brace and interior with me And not pay huge amounts on insurance
Alex
PS. still fuming from todays renault experience - they tried to make out we should be grateful that they have given us a courtsey car out of good will.. pah!

RichB- Have to agree with you on a couple of points about Olympian from my dealings with them a few years ago, but I was only referring to sales, getting a test drive and post sales service and with that in mind they are VERY good. I can only go by my own experience so far, and they have been very helpful. S'pose we'll see how things go when it comes to servicing etc...
How are things anyway, I'm still working away in London, so I don't get to drive around much locally, 'cept at weekends round Blandford/Stur Marshall etc... Are the local meets going O.K. , and with that in mind, are you planning a weekend jaunt, so I can whip all your asses !!
All the best,
Darrell
