Default Cost of Porsche ownership

There is a possibility I will be selling my GT3 and I have just been totting up the cost of ownership for the last 18 months.

A set of discs and pads was a whale of a cost in the past year. Added to that one service, a warranty renewal, a brake fluid service, a set of tyres and an aircon re-gas the costs tot up. The car has had no faults in that time and feels just as strong as when I got it.

So the total cost of the above comes out at £3,820.

I am sure that probably seems expensive...

...but, and this is a big BUT.

The depreciation on the car over the past 18 months has been around £2,000 and that is to get a quick sale, that is less than 5%! I am sure that if I clung on I could probably get a little more for it.

Indeed the cost argument is so compelling I think I might just keep it!

Sounds almost identical to the ownership costs of my RS6 these supercars don't 'arf cost a packet to keep on the road but worth every penny.I'd love a GT3 one day

From new?

I thought the depreciation from new was heroic. If you have an older one and look after it then the losses from then might be reasonable.

Don't know about new as i have the older shape one but even 03s and 04s are fetching 19k with circa 80k miles and the plus models are 21k+ and are selling but they were 50 odd grand new 7 years ago. There are some ropey ones on PH for circa 11k but i wouldnt touch those with a barge pole as 9 time out of ten they will cost you that again to get right.Obviously the Porsche will hold its value better as they are rarer but the overall running costs between the 2 are very comparable

I guess the point of my post was that running costs are higher but with the right car, the total cost of ownership of what is pretty much a supercar is no worse than any £25k new car!

I am still on the fence. The car is white and red so NOT my colour choice. But as a returned order is brand new!!! Rarer than hen's teeth!

I had thought I would pass but then got an immediate offer for my GT3 from my insurance broker.

So it could be back on again. I really want red on grey or silver on grey, but they are even rarer than the white ones!

Is this the car you would need to put circa £80,000 towards after selling the current one?

I bought my 911 turbo 2002 with 3000 miles on the clock two and a half years ago for £48000. I have done 20,000 miles in it and having a quick look on pistonheads think I could get £35K for it.

so 13k depreciation (£5200 per year)
Oil service, end year 1 (Say £300 not sure but must have been about that)
Warranty, end year 1 (£1300 based on this year)

Full service, end year 2 (£1000)
Warranty, end year 2 (£1300)
New Porsche battery (£300) as it had a non Porsche battery even though they gave me a warranty last year with it in.
Set of tyres (£1000)

Can't see you loosing much less on a mid range BMW or similar.

I wouldn't want a GT3 that's been raced.

Most that have been raced have been given far more care with regular set up, brakes and tyres than some job that is taken out for a ten mile drive once a week and never warmed up properly!

Last year my 997S cost me just a smidge over £5k to run. That included everything, fuel, insurance, service, tax, warranty, cleaning etc etc.

Worked out to about £1 a mile.

Excellent VFM IMHO.

Sounds like a lot of money but then I've spunked a fair few quid on my Skyline modding it so maybe it's not that much.

But then I don't mind raping my Skyline around a track or otherwise brutalising it 'cos not a £80k asset!

There are plenty of people on this BBS who have spent this much sorting out Scoobs

And as for brutalising it - that is what cars are for!

Okay, I was a little over exaggerating the price.

It'll be £79,990.

I must be too poor to be reading this thread but I would be crying if I was posting this.
I would be paying the mortgage on a house with this amount of cash

It was a decent guess - and bang on the money if I traded the GT3 to an OPC. I can get quite a bit more privately. Still a lot of cash though
