Barely a week goes by without yet another new 911 being launched.
I say new, but what I really mean is an overpriced modern re-hash of an old idea! Surely the buying public can see through the con these days? There are just so many special edition models swilling around now, that the investment potential must be seriously eroded, coupled with the much higher purchase price in the first place.
How many of these will just be traded around the dealers for a year or so and barely turn a wheel. Someone will take a big hit in 3 or 4 years time on them. There are just too many out there to be considered blue-chip investments like their predecessors have become.
Real 911 buyers should just go for the one that they enjoy driving the most for the money they can afford and stuff these so-called specials.

The GT2 RS is the fastest, most powerful car Porsche have ever made. And a relative bargain price for Porsche.
The GTS is relatively good value and is really a run-off edition to keep the model moving until the 998.
The Speedster probably does fit your comments - but history tells us all will be sold and Speedsters have always commanded a premium.
Mind you there are rumours of one more final limited edition - a 500bhp GT3 RS - and I can tell you there will be people fighting to get their hands on one!

Waiting for a 997.2 Turbo S wearing a 356 body and costing £300k++
TBH the current Turbo S and GT2 RS are insanely good VFM for what they are - complete hypercar spankers with a boot and dimensions that mean they can be driven on normal roads.
Far more desirable IMO than some daft looking Gallardo, Murci, 599 or similar giant lump of overpowered machinery.

Porsche have a particular thing for pulling customer trousers down and reaming them a new one. I suppose it's a small price to pay for the chance to leave peasant car dealers behind, and set foot in the Official Pretentious Centers

Ok some of them were definitely special editions, others were nothing more than special trim options.
I'm not defending Porsche here, far from it, just that other manufacturers do it as well but Porsche are getting it in the neck because they're a premium brand.

I'd drive a Porsche in a flash if I had the spare money, but otoh they definitely over do the marketing driven 'new model' thing even if most marques are guilty to some degree.
Can't help thinking it's like releasing a new trinket or pricey watch every time.
