Less is an AWFUL lot more!

How about paying £100k premium over a Carrera to get a 911 with a manual hood

Some people have more money then sense ;)

Speedster

Jamz3k 21 September 2010 10:41 PM

that is one fugly looking 911.

drb5 22 September 2010 10:47 AM

Personally i love it!

Reminded me straight away of the old school 911's.

Just need's a whale-tail, though it might spoil the look...not sure.

Trout 22 September 2010 10:56 AM

Speedsters shouldn't have a whale tail.

There was an earlier Speedster that I would die for. But they are VERY expensive.

Its not really an ordinary 911 with the roof chopped off though is it !

Worth the money , goodness knows

id go for that gt2 you came up with last week i think instead Trout ( hypothetically )

Turbo2 22 September 2010 11:43 AM

Barely a week goes by without yet another new 911 being launched.

I say new, but what I really mean is an overpriced modern re-hash of an old idea! Surely the buying public can see through the con these days? There are just so many special edition models swilling around now, that the investment potential must be seriously eroded, coupled with the much higher purchase price in the first place.

How many of these will just be traded around the dealers for a year or so and barely turn a wheel. Someone will take a big hit in 3 or 4 years time on them. There are just too many out there to be considered blue-chip investments like their predecessors have become.

Real 911 buyers should just go for the one that they enjoy driving the most for the money they can afford and stuff these so-called specials.

Very nice until you look at the rear - it just doesn't work :(

I can see your point but do not entirely agree.

The GT2 RS is the fastest, most powerful car Porsche have ever made. And a relative bargain price for Porsche.

The GTS is relatively good value and is really a run-off edition to keep the model moving until the 998.

The Speedster probably does fit your comments - but history tells us all will be sold and Speedsters have always commanded a premium.

Mind you there are rumours of one more final limited edition - a 500bhp GT3 RS - and I can tell you there will be people fighting to get their hands on one!

Matteeboy 22 September 2010 01:43 PM

Waiting for a 997.2 Turbo S wearing a 356 body and costing £300k++

TBH the current Turbo S and GT2 RS are insanely good VFM for what they are - complete hypercar spankers with a boot and dimensions that mean they can be driven on normal roads.

Far more desirable IMO than some daft looking Gallardo, Murci, 599 or similar giant lump of overpowered machinery.

Porsche have a particular thing for pulling customer trousers down and reaming them a new one. I suppose it's a small price to pay for the chance to leave peasant car dealers behind, and set foot in the Official Pretentious Centers ;)

Carrera GT :wonder:

Trout 29 September 2010 08:26 PM

It is quicker around the circuit and more powerful than the GT :D

FlightMan 29 September 2010 08:40 PM

This Sniff petrol non-advert sums it all up nicely. :D

Thought you were one of them ;) Ltd editions eh, you can always charge a premium for that ... +22hp though so not all bad!

TX.

Trout 30 September 2010 01:24 PM

That's right I really squandered my money buying a car that is worth the same as when I bought it 18 months ago and have driven for a year ;) :p

Kind of ironic saying this on a Subaru forum, how many special edition Imprezas have there been??

Ok some of them were definitely special editions, others were nothing more than special trim options.

I'm not defending Porsche here, far from it, just that other manufacturers do it as well but Porsche are getting it in the neck because they're a premium brand.

tony de wonderful 30 September 2010 06:33 PM

I'd drive a Porsche in a flash if I had the spare money, but otoh they definitely over do the marketing driven 'new model' thing even if most marques are guilty to some degree.

Can't help thinking it's like releasing a new trinket or pricey watch every time.

The Prodrive versions were not factory though right?

They are more like a Tommy Kaira Skyline or something?

My apologies, I didn't mean in the very present, I was referring to ones from the past like;

Series McRae
Terzo
Catalunya
RB5
P1
RB320
22B etc.

You're right about Subaru, but that was 10 years ago and with the exception of the 22B, at a much lower price range than what Porsche are after. As per the title of this thread, Porsche started charging more for less from about the early 1990's onwards and we all fell for it. It's getting to the point where it's more of an event to see a standard 911 than one of the ubiquitous "specials". The same thing happened to the E36 3 series: I am sure I used to see more M3's than regular cars. You could never say that about the previous E30 generation.
