Porsche V Ferrari .??
Well just came back from a Drivers Dream Day at Elvington .
Got the above experience as a birthday present .
Cars driven where a Ferrari 355 and a Porsche Turbo .Condition of Track was wet in most places as it had rained this morning .
My findings .The Ferrari was a bag of nails to be honest !!! Obviously much older design etc than the modern Porsche I drove ,but the instructor said the Ferrari was a Drivers car and still very popular ,but to me it felt very outdated and slow .
Whereas the Porsche was awesome !!!! Now I do have a soft spot for the Porsche and it is my Dream car if you like ,and one that I will have to get one day .
All in all it was a good day but a few more laps in the Porsche would have been nice .
Now how do I finance that Porsche .????

On a 911 the finance is not a major problem. They hold their value so well you will find the payments on a PCP are actually very low for the price of the car as the final value will be higher due to their slow depreciation. Still, you need to buy it at the end! (or give it back I guess)
Warranty offers a lot of protection for £1350.
Service only required every 2 years and is a fairly fixed cost if you have the above warranty.
If you wanted to live the dream for 3 years and then hand it back I think you could do it with £20-25k over the 3 years.
I read about a guy who took out an extended mortgage to buy a lambo. He drove it for a couple of years, sold it at good money and the whole round trip cost him a few tens of thousands. Not bad for 2 years in a £200k car.
HTH.

I did the same thing, After a few tracks in a GT3 I thought I would do a two week lease of a 997 s, after that I still loved the car.
I have been searching for a long time and I think I am settled on a 911 996 C4S, you can pick them up fairly cheap (25k ish) they will hold a bit of value and as said above not to much to run.
If you hear horror stories about Porsches take them with a pinch of salt, Mr Trout has a GT3 I believe and that is a lot to run, but its a lot of car.
Our Cayenne costs about £700 a month to run (8.4 mpg, £240 finance, £50 insurance etc etc) but I have a friend with an 02 C4s and he is running it for about £350 a month.
One word of warning!!!!
When something happens to a Porsche like it needs washer fluid, or petrol or a light bulb it makes this beep.... This beep is the same for an engine failure or a turning bulb.
If you are a worrier then be warned every time you hear this beep (the Porsche beep of death) you will brick yourself... hoping the screen tells you its just petrol and not new brakes.

Tim - I am not sure I said the GT3 was a lot to run.
I think I gave the costs on here a while ago - estimated £2,500 a year plus fuel. That includes insurance and warranty.
Not that bad for a car that does 0-100mph in 9 seconds and will drive across Europe, do a few laps of the 'Ring (under 8 minutes if you are called Walter) and then drive home again having picked up your luggage from the hotel.

Porsches are cheap as chips to run.... I mean, I've just this month replaced 3 coolant rads and an aircon rad at £1400, 2 rear tyres for £450 and a few other bits and pieces for £800.....
Mind you, my insurance has come down by £250, so yeah, cheap....
oh, not complaining though, just one of those things!

Dont get me wrong I love the GT3, more then most of the things in my life. I was thinking entry level, a late 996 C4s would be best for this (IMO)
How is the GT3? still making you smile?

I've had the front bumper meshed now to hopefully stop it happening again.
Unfortunately it's quite a common problem on Porsches with lots of power that are actually driven properly... You still on your original rads Fishface?
