Well the 205's gone...
I decided about 2 weeks ago that life with the 205 wasn't working out, mainly due to porr winter MPG and bits needing replacing due to wear and tear - one of the pleasures of owning what was a 22 year old car I guess.
As of yesterday (and a 250 mile round trip to Cambridgeshire) I'm now the proud owner of a 1998 Peugeot 106 1.1 Zest 2
Got the car and £450 cash so a pretty good deal all round. More nippy than a 1.5 diesel 106 I owned about 3 years ago but still slow and wobbly. It's in decent enough condition, plenty of old lady dings on the outside on the drivers side but a good clean and polish will help the paint out.
I haven't any pics yet as she needs some moulded clips ordering as the drivers door trim is in the boot currently
Definitly gonna miss the 205 as it was the most fun car I've ever owned but reliability was the deciding factor in the end. 40+ mpg and a car 10 years younger (with power steering for my wrist) will be nice. Even has a sunroof and 13" trims Bling!
Couldn't believe how much interest the 205 brought though. Had people on here offering cash, people off pistonheads, fellow Scunthonians who had seen it around and then on the net... 25 people at least called, emailed me.
Won't be long before I'm back in a Scoob, my spiritual home, hopefully.

I was looking around at GTI's the other day, theres not very many for sale any more. At least certainly not good ones with relatively low mileage (77k miles)
And the prices are on the up, my 1990 Sorrento seems to be worth around what I paid for it again (bought it 8/9 years ago!)

Lol@this.
Seriously though, when I needed cheaper transport due to the recession and I got rid of the spooky for a ZS180 I got griefed,BAD.
I got all the Rover jokes, I got told I was a mentalist, I got told it would fall to bits, rust, blow up, kill its head gaskets and give me a nightmare.
1 year later, it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned, nothing broke, it failed its mot on a bulb, and apart from me flattening the battery once due to leaving the stereo on for a few hours at work, it has never let me down.
One of the best cars I have driven, and its worth naff all

The 205 was expensive to run as it needed V-power and did about 25 mpg. Insurance was good at £400 but I had to keep replacing worn parts.
Remembering when I owned all 3 off my Scoobs over the period of about 2 1/2 years, I was on over £20k a year wages and had little debt. Since I lost my job 2 years or so ago, my debts mounted and I'm working my way out of it. Equivalently, I earn £6119 for my first year as an apprenticeship. It rises sharply over the next 2 years.
HTH.

At least you're living within your means Andy. Who cares about the street cred? If you had it all on a plate you wouldn't appreciate the good things when you finally got to own them. My car history has been up and down, I started off with a Ford Anglia and now own a Scoob, it's been downhill all the way since
But I'm looking forward to seeing your Robin....
