Punto GT

Anyone know about tuning one of these or maybe a good board for them like scoobynet? might be getting my old beatie back and want to do a couple of tweaks. Nothing obvious though, want it to be a street sleeper. Probably just brakes, engine etc

Here in Italy there are a lot of these, more often than not driven by the MaxP brigade and at times with many mods. They can cheaply make a lot of horse power, the engines are apparently pretty unburstable, and they don't weigh much (don't have a crash in one), but the suspension is so so and the brakes sh** apparently. I've certainly seen many a Punto, on the road and at open track days, with ridicoulos PWR for such an average handling, no traction fwd, flexy-chassis, weak-braked car. Been tailgated by one on the freeway, doing 220kmh in my Elise 111S. Scary. Imagine if they had to brake or do a high speed avoidance move in that thing.
Never actually driven one but these are my Punto experiences as a "spectator".

160 bhp is quite easy to get.
I never bothered modding mine - it was plenty fast enough with 136bhp. The wheels spin all the time with that power let alone anonther 30bhp going through the front wheels.
In the wet it was slow as I could never get the power down for wheelspin.
Handling was OK, bit ragged at higher speeds, nightmare off boost. Grea laugh tho, would have another.

A great and bullett proof car
I had mine for about 18 months.
The mods were: Superchipped
BMC air filter (panel)
Bailey dump valve
Bleed valve
Magnex exhaust
EBC grooved discs
16" alloys
Lowered 35mm
Full abarth bodykit
The best fun car I had until I got the scoob
The most expensive mod was the superchip at £400

P.S. The car was pushing 200bhp (well that's what was indicated on the rolling road)

managed to borrow the punto for the day to see how it compares to my cupra. Well it has been almost 2 and a half years since i last drove the GT. FIrst thing i noticed was the brales, or should i say lack of them! and the handling wasnt too hot either. At the moment im thinking that this would be the list of mods it would need for me to be happy.
New Brakes
Uprated Suspension
Turbo Timer
Dump Valve
Poss Bigger Alloys for more grip
So that doesnt make it such a cheap car after all. hmmm, may have to think longer about this. DOH!

A friend has one... A few mods on it, and once rolling (and in the dry) it's probably on a par with my MY99 Impreza Turbo until 3 figures.

anuone any ideas what the biggest alloys i can fit on with out arch work would be? im thinking of restricting to 16's for handling as ive got 17's on my cupra and i think it lost a bit of its edge due to them.

As I said I had 16s on mine
Momo Arrows 7.5x16 dressed with 195/45x16 tyres (got to say looked pretty nice)
The only time they rubbed to arches was when I had 3 people in the back and all my Hi-fi gear.
