Default Scirocco R trounces the Focus RS

Surprised - yep me too.

Not as powerful but less torque steer, just as fast in the real world and a nicer place to be inside but dont take my word for it......

Evo wrote some thing very simlair as both cars made it into Evo car of the year.

But 300bhp fwd hatches dont torque steer surely. A 350 bhp golf is quicker than a new M3.

I wouldn't say the Scirroco trounces the RS - it just wins by a small margin. TBH I think some journos get bored of new stuff very quickly and like to praise the next new thing. Having said that, I'd get the VW over the Ford. It also handily weighs a lot less.

People are finally learning
At 300hp the cupra didnt torque steer. No one belived me so I made videos of it and showed people.

Not at 360 hp there is some torque steer, but there are some chassis mods that will combat that.

So your telling me in a 300bhp Cupra flooring it through 1st and 2nd leads to no torque steer at all.

Me too. I must be one of a handful that doesn't like the new RS at all.

cant say that I floor it in 1st as you will just end up with wheel hop and the esp flasshing, or with esp off just lighting the fronts up. But when I was running 300hp in 2nd, no I wasnt getting torque steer.

Before buying my cupra, I read 3 log term reviews of the cupra, and all of them commented on how the cupra didnt suffer from torque steer, unlike its vxr etc counterparts.

I can post those links if anyones interested.

hang on a minute, isn't that the whole point being made? you can't use that amount of power?

so the short version is, it copes with torque steer by dumping the power?

y o y do people with FWD cars claim they have x amount of useable power and don't get wheel spin, when its pretty blatent and they admit that the electrics of the car drop the power for them?

360hp isnt useable even in a rwd car if you dump the clucth. Wheels will spin up. Come 3rd and grip is there to go wot.

Countless cars have over 360bhp and are RWD. They handle it fine.

if wheelspin in 1st and second in a rwd car is seen to be as handling it fine then going by that statement my cupra can handle 260hp in 1st and second fine too

wasn;t talking about rwd, which does perform better than fwd. what i was going on about was your claim about torque steer, you can;t even use the power to find out if your car does or not.

by 3rd gear most cars are beyond the torque steer point anyway, i bet if you had it on a runway and tried it by not steering you'd find it does do it.

and thats assuming bone dry and not greasy

Torque steer is a pain for drag starts but it's understeer that's gets my goat in FWD crd with oomph.

ZR1 vs GT2 - both RWD and only the tiniest amount of spin as they launch. Both packing serious power.

I don't think "trounces" is the correct word to use reading that report, I do like the Scirocco though.

As for torque steer, some cars seem to have it and some don't. My Focus is quicker than an RS and doesn't have any and I'm quite happy to demonstrate that to the haters on here so they can report back to the followers.

I'm running Dreamsceince and Toyo Proxes on my Focus ST and on damp b road early Sunday morning it had torque steer from a rolling start and the ESP was flashing even in 3rd. My previous STI running approx 300 bhp wouldn't have any issue with that road at all. Is my Focus a duff, I think not, high powered fwd cars torque steer that's a fact, I don't care how good the chassis is.

Get behind the scirroco & its not a pretty sight.
Was behind the sport model other week,obviously driver thought he had a quick car as he tried to outrun the RB320.Needless to say he never got very far,what are power figures for theese?

we have a couple ex focus st owners who now have leon cupras and they say that when mapped their st would torque steer but the cupra doesnt

But then again you arent helping your cause with those rubbish toyo proxes.

My ST is also running DS as well as all the other choice mods to be circa 300bhp and trust me, it doesn't torque steer at all. As said, I'm happy to demo this to anyone so they can report back.

It will spin the wheels from a standing start when wet, but other than that it's fine.
