I was kind of fixed on the BMW, but a friend reckons I should look at the Audi.
Any thoughts / experiences?

The audi's a quattro, forgot to mention. Personally I'd rather have rwd, but interested in other peoples views / experiences.

and that is why I went for a Audi A4 Quattro 2.5TDI over a Beemer 320/330d when I replaced my Impreza
if Audi only came in FWD i would have gone Beemer
but you do pay a penalty for 4WD at the pumps I think

Mmmm. Its to be an everyday car for me- cutting down on cars, I gave the wife the X5 and thought I could live with the hawkeye sti day to day- which it turns out I can't.
I'm going to go for an estate so I have plenty of space for kids / dogs etc, but want something with a decent amount of power- and economy.

mmm similiar to me, Wife has a Landcruiser Amazon, but my decision the sell my Scooby was based on my mileage being 25k a year at the mo and although its all covered by my company ( i get a car allowance plus 18p a mile) I just am a bit greedy and wanted to make a bit of money off the petrol -- and I could see petrol process stabilising at over a £ a litre
plus I do love 4WD – which I think swung my decision – but my Audi is not as economical as I hoped for (much better than the Subaru)
I really wanted the 1.9 quattro but they are like rocking horse ****

Between the 2, the 535 wins hands down, solid engine, much nicer than the 3ltr audi lump (they class the bmw engine as one of the best diesels on the market), so a no brainer for me

Yep, me too I think. I do tend to find that if I have to ask I'm not committed enough, and the BMW was the initial choice. the 335d touring has just been suggested though... wonder how much smaller they are than the 5 touring?

Ive got an audi 2.5 allroad (52 plate ). Mpg isnt too good 26-29 tops. Also, if you buy second hand, be aware of a automatic gearbox issue with the torque converter and have the diagnostics / faults read to ensure it's okay.
Also, avoid anything with air bag suspension. Wont even attempt to tell you guys how much Ive spent on new bags, etc etc.
TRremendous build quality on the Audi though, nice little gadgets and certainly great for load carrying / children.

My father in law has the A6 Le Mans, stunning looking, ride quite firm, quick-ish but I cant stand that diesel thing where just as it gets going it changes gear, lovely interior but I noticed vibes when it was idling that didnt seem in keeping with the cars upmarket image, felt like a Mondeo taxi sat at lights. I have been in a new shape 520D and ok it was slower but was impressed with how well it pulled considering, I think I just prefer BMW's, the Audi is however a nice motor.
Seeign as you dont want your Scoob any more, give it me as I still need to get it out of my system !
