Sounds right. Bought my old Polo from an independent. Had a suspension issue took it to VW and got quoted £800 for repairs. Went to another independent and all done for £110.
Mate had similar story 4 years ago and the Dover branch lost its license because of it.
Sorry, but Id never go near a VW dealer.
