My mother is getting all twitchy about a Clio 172 she has seen.
It's Black, 4.5k, 51 reg. £10995. The salesman said it was an import and claimed that the only differences, compared to a UK car were as follows.
UK = 3 year warranty. Import = 2 year.
UK = cat 1 alarm. Import = Cat 2 Immobiliser.
Is there anything else the Salesman has missed out? Is that the sort of money that this car is worth?
Thanks in advance.

Any decent importer web sites to browse?
I know it costs more to insure a Jap Scoob (more bhp etc.) but would this apply to a seemingly identical Clio?

It's true, the import ones are exactly the same apart from the lack of alarm (just has transponder immobiliser) and the warranty is now 3 years even on imports (new ones), so no probs.
But...
As you've already heard they are only that much brand new as an import, plus you get all the warranty so you might as well get a spanker!
What part of West Yorkshire are you from? Because, Motorpoint at Burnley are turning them out for £11,995 new and they usually have them in stock. Shouldn't be too far for you?!
As for insurance, there is no difference in cost with an import!

Brun,
Along with the Lack of Cat 1 alarm, check to see if the windows have been etched with the chassis number, also check to see if locking wheel nuts have been fitted. Imports don't have them as standard but as its second hand, they may have been fitted subsequently.
As for the warranty, it is only 2 years and not 3 yrs as was quoted.
As for the cost of £10,995.00 being acheived for a new import, highly unlikely as the Dutch price (where most imports come from) went up so probably not achievable any more. Indeed, I traded the last of my ne imported Clio 172 Sports about a month ago for £11,300.00 to trade, and they are now being forecourted at £12,499.00 then there's your road tax on top of that.
Daveboy et al, if you can get me new Clio 172 Sports at £10,995.00, let me know and I'll have them!!!!

On closer inspection yhe car was not worth it. They are now looking at the brand new route. When it comes to service time, are the main dealers likely to be funny about servicing it, being an import and all? The olds just want a motor without needing the hassle of finding a friendly Renault dealer!

Have you asked a main dealer for a price, a friend of mine was offered a new 172 from Fish Bros in Swindon @ £13k (for a new UK car) and a good trade in. The deal worked out cheaper than trade-sales cost to change...
