Default Exhaust Question

I have a Saab 9-3 Aero with remap so its fairly quick but it makes no noise, was wondering what the score would be if I removed the rear box and replace it with a piece of 2.5 bore pipe like the rest of the system, I know this can sometimes be counter productive with back pressure and whatever but not sure whether it applies to turbocharged cars or not and would it increase power, stay the same or make no difference apart from some more noise ?

The car is ok but I find it boring so was hoping a bit of exhaust noise might make it feel a bit more interesting, dont want a Saxo style fart can noise though !

It may be better to remove on of the mid boxes (or the mid box if it only has one). It might drone too much on the motorway, though. I reckon removing the back box would sound worse than a Saxo fart can.

Turbos can kill a lot of the noise, why not look at induction kits?

Bob, thats good idea, has a panel filer but I suspect a cone filter would help in the noise department.

Have you got a standard downpipe? A 3" is said to cause a deeper note but no drone. It also gives you more torques.

Also there was a thread on a Saab forum were someone had fitted quite a loud exhaust but wasn't noticeable in the car?? Interesting to find what bits were used..

Have you got a Saab? You've not mentioned that before have you?

I'd leave it well alone as I don't think it fits in with the Saab image.

I am not particularly proud of the fact I own a Saab, just thought it was relevant to mention seeing as I was asking a question, have taken Bobs advice and ordered a K and N induction kit, hope to get a more growly noise from it as otherise its about as vocal as trappist monk on a quite day.

Chill Jacko, I was pulling your leg, hence the "". Not meant in a "Matteeboy" way.

A Saab eh? Makes a change from a Focus ST/RS thread

A proper Magnex or Milltech type backbox should up the ante without turning all Paxo.
