Sold!

Sold! Astra 1.9 cdti 150

New Car, Focus ST 2!

I no longer need 2 cars any more so I bought an all rounder. Not as quick as the scoob but with a few mods it could be.

Yeah, not keen on the top stripes but I do like the side ones.
Maybe it's because my first car was a Fiesta S which had similar

Get it remapped and it will fly, Dreamscience is good.

Oh and buy a new intercooler as well, power is pulled right back on the std IC anything over 15 degrees. Airtec Gen3 is superb for the money and they are on group buy over at focusstoc.com at the minute as well, £250 delivered but you will need to be quick.

Dream Weaver which map is the best to go for Only want 250 - 270 bhp and don't really want to spend that much on mods yet.

They're meant to be a bit juicy though aren't they?? What sort of average mpg do these get once mapped... would likely be the usual combination of urban, bit of boost and 50-60mph cruising??

I take it that they're in the mega tax band as well, £400+ per year??

Cheers,
Grant

I'm fairly sure they are not in the mega tax band but don't have any info to hand.

I have a heavy right foot, and mainly use mine at the weekends (i.e. not much mway cruising) and I get around 23mpg with close on 300bhp, thats average MPG over the last year. I have had it at 32mpg when I did a 100 mile trip up to Durham with the Mrs.

CO2 is at 224, so just under the mega tax bracket. It is £245 to tax for next year IIRC, was £215 this year.

Geesta, there are quite a few remaps available, all with different plus/minus. I went for the Dreamscience option as it gives you 5 maps, from 255bhp up to 270bhp but they have just released a new load of remap options including a very basic single map option for about £250.

I bought my handset 2nd hand and under a year old for £340 and they are over £500 new.

Even if you don't plan on any further mods, I would advise spending £600 on both a remap and intercooler, as the std IC really can't cope with even midly warm weather (I thought my turbo had blow last summer when it was 23 degrees one day!! )

Thanks mate, was hearing stories of "mine only does 15mpg, and thats not even giving it much of a tough time" which seriously put me off them as a practical performance hatchback... I couldn't justify that economy on anything other than a weekend toy, however, 25mpg average isn't too ridiculous IMO.

Great news about the tax as well, I assumed because of the capacity it was going to be mega money... nice that its just squeezed in under the limit.

Grant

What size tank do they have/whats the cost to fill it?

How many miles do you usually see from a full tank?

Cheers

It costs £50 to fill with vpower and my average is 320-340 miles per tank but I've had it as high as 400

I used http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php and got:

Going by 50ltr costing £50 just now (give or take) to get 320 miles = 29.09mpg
Going by 50ltr costing £50 just now (give or take) to get 400 miles = 36.37mpg

....and if PauloP is getting those figures, after reading stories on here over the years, then it's not unreasonable to assume that its possible to knock into the 50mpg bracket if you have a slightly lighter right foot.

Grant

I'm slightly worse than that, I put £45-50 worth of Tesco 99 in mine and I usually get around 220-250 miles per tank, but as I say most of my driving is country roads with very little cruising.

On a STOC run out I usually get about 180 miles from the tank.

Mine does about 280 at best in normal driving to a tank, £55 quid fuel. At best I had 32mpg on a run staying mostly around 70.

I put my foot down from time to time and still get figures in the late 20's and 29mpg sounds about right for most tanks for me. On a motorway it'll do more as you've calculated and I've averaged 38mpg on a 120 mile round trip, it was fooking boring though

hhmmm, my STI (with a good few mods ) does around 230 local driving (30-40mph limits stop starting etc) and around 300 miles to a tank on a run costing about £55 to fill it with V-Power, don't think I would change the scoob for one of them just yet then?!?!
